A SYMBOL OF EXCELLENCE: KIM NAM JOON

Kim Nam Joon, globally known as RM of BTS, is the charismatic leader of the worldwide sensation K-pop group BTS. He was born on September 12, 1994, in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, South Korea, and has led the band for twelve years since their debut in 2013.

He moved to Ilsan-gu during his early childhood and has always exhibited remarkable intelligence from a young age. The leader boasts of an IQ of 148, which is amazing. He was also previously ranked in the top 1% of the nation in his high school exams. RM has a unique fact of his English being self-taught by watching the American sitcom “Friends.”

He was an active underground rapper in the K-hip hop scene with the name “Runch Randa” prior to his debut in the group. He became the first member to join BigHit Entertainment in 2010, where he laid the foundation for the group. As the leader, main rapper, songwriter, and producer, he has successfully shaped BTS’s musical direction alongside other members. RM has more than 100 songs certified under his name as a composer or producer. This showcases his profound talent in the entertainment scene and his commitment to his art.

Beyond his musical talents, his fans know him as the “god of destruction.” This is because of his frequent clumsiness, leading to the accidental breakage of inanimate objects. This side of his is both hilarious and frightening because of the high probability of getting hurt; this just shows his imperfection as a human, we guess! It is a contrast to his composed and intellectual appearance on stage and during work, which is perfectly okay.

In his personal life, "Namjooning” has been successfully coined by RM. This refers to the act of living as RM. He is well known for his love for nature, visitation to museums, reading, self-reflection, and quest for more knowledge. This makes him more charming among fans worldwide because they can relate to a side of him outside of intelligence and artistic excellence. It has also encouraged them to find joy and meaning in little and everyday experiences.

His story as a talented young rapper whose dream was originally opposed by his parents because they wanted him to be a medical doctor is inspiring. Not many have the courage to be defiant, but he has proven that knowing and holding onto one’s dreams is the answer. He continues to tell his story through advice, creativity, and authenticity in his songs like “Moonchild,” “Wild Flower,” “Forever Rain,” “Persona,” and others.

He has managed to balance leadership with personal growth over the years. He has also proven himself as an influential figure in contemporary culture. You don’t have to be a fan of BTS before you enjoy RM songs. His albums like “Mono,” and “Indigo,” are a total separation from his identity as a group member. You can catch up here and see if they are for you.

Happy discovery!
