The ink drips smartly over here. Let me take you through the world of my imagination while riding on the letters😎 It's all fun in this corner.
For the past seven weeks, Park Shin Hye and Kim Jae Young took us through a thrilling ride with their characters, Kang Bit Na/Justitia and Han Da On, respectively. It’s not a new thing to see childhood revenge and a harsh judge in K-drama land but this series took a turn by spicing things up with the supernatural elements.
It kept us all on the edges of our seats as we all anxiously waited for what to come every single week. From the curiosity of if she would be able to fulfill her mission, how their romance would play out, who Satan was, to if she would return to hell, every episode got better.
The humor in the characters’ lines, their relationships, Justitia’s fashion shows, the unrepentant criminals’ revenge scenes, comedic signatures, and behaviors got us giggling when our toes are not curling with the romantic scenes. It was not a lie when we declared that Han Da On was a finished man for Kang Bit Na. He was ready to go to hell with her and risk it all; now this is the love we are talking about!
However, the judge from hell wasn’t just about fun; it left us with five lessons that we might be holding onto for a long time.
*Spoilers Ahead*
Justice Beyond Legal Boundaries: It is not a doubt that the world has a legal system but there are times when the legal system alone is not enough to teach some people proper lessons and that is the reality of some individuals. In cases like this, supernatural elements have to intervene and balance the scale, which was exactly what Justitia did. Some sinners just don’t repent or realize the damage they have done until they are made to pass through the same fire.
Complexity of Individual Morals: humans will forever have flesh with blood running through their veins! The situations we go through can make one understand that there’s no one strictly “good” or “evil” because our actions and choices are heavily influenced by them. Han Da On didn’t think twice before shaking hands with the devil when he lost the mother figure in his life, Officer Kim So Young. It cost him the protection of the angel but he still wasn’t abandoned because he was not originally “evil.”
Persistence Even in the Face of Evil: evil will always co-exist with mankind and oppositions will always arise to counter the good but through persistence, justice will truly be served. Even though the serial killer J’s victims’ case had exceeded the statute of limitation, the family members didn’t for once stop pushing for justice. Their persistence was what fueled the ability of Justitia to punish J severely. Of course, Justitia herself faced a lot of criticisms, had to choose between love and her life, and had to let go of some things; all was aimed toward justice prevailing.
Community Responsibility: Justice cannot be achieved alone. We always need people, no matter what. Different characters from different backgrounds and occupations came together to give us a masterpiece. The judge from hell herself, the detectives, corrupt judges and legal figures, supernatural beings, victims, and ordinary citizens all contributed towards the achievement of justice, either positively or negatively. Judge from Hell got everyone actively involved with not necessarily a large cast, yet they delivered their sauces effortlessly.
Love Will Forever Win: Justitia never imagined herself falling in love but no one is beyond the vulnerability of that emotion. She found herself making humane choices and enjoying the bliss of the earth with a partner. Love, which of course, comes with sacrifices, will forever win in every situation.
