The ink drips smartly over here. Let me take you through the world of my imagination while riding on the letters😎 It's all fun in this corner.
We open the episode with Han Deul knitting a huge red balloon, which she flies with in her dream. It ends up coming loose, and she falls back to reality – it can only be a dream, of course.
Ki Jun and Jeon Man wake the whole house with their screams as they open their eyes to see each other in bed. Jeon Man accuses Ki Jun of lying that he will sleep on the floor to make the ladies comfortable, but sneaks into the bed. Still, he defends himself that the floor is too hard while Jeon Man has him in a choke hold before the ladies barge in to figure out what the noise is about.
Pretending to faint, Jeon Man finally releases him, and he pops up to fish out his tablet so he can answer the alarm question, unless it'll continue ringing. Interesting. He has to calculate the exponential mortality APV, which is the expected present value of future insurance benefits calculated assuming mortality follows an exponential distribution. The ladies cheer him on to finish the question quickly before the alarm blows up their brains, and he ends up getting the answer, 22 million won, before bouncing back on Jeon Man for the strangulation. Truth be told, Ki Jun's lifestyle is out of this world because don't we all wait for our brains to boot first in the morning?
The team enters the office in a grand style, boasting of a countermeasure after sleeping in the same bed. Going overboard just to flaunt now? He he! Dae Bok questions their same bed line, all by himself with no one to answer him before taking an aggressive bite of the sandwich Jeon Man handed to him. Dae Bok happily presents the filled contract forms to Na Rae, and she questions why they are all on hold, washing the mood down the drain. Han Deul comes to the rescue and explains why she suggested it, and we are taken back to the mother-in-law, who wanted to sign up in the last episode.
The bride's mother claims she came to purchase discounted household items for the couple, and the groom's mother counters that she also coming there to purchase bridal jewelry for her daughter-in-law. When did an insurance booth turn into a department store? Oh well! They end up agreeing to get the divorce insurance for their kids, but with the same terms.
Ah, Young and Han Deul rush in to call Ki Jun and Jeon Man's attention to the crowds arguing outside the booth. Their idea to use a wedding fair turned out to be a successful one, but with a lot of risk involved since almost all the couples arguing have a higher percentage of getting a divorce in the years to come. Han Deul suggests they should be put on hold and then have their eligibility vetted and verified so the insurance doesn't fail even if it sells. Jeon Man kicks against the idea with the fact that underwriting provisions cannot be created within three days, but Ki Jun pushes the question of whether it can work to Han Deul, who accepts the challenge without hesitation.
Ki Jun almost gets his head broken with his provocative question of why they are getting married if they can't trust each other. It captured their attention like he wanted, and he told them to get assessed if they were fit for the marriage, and the insurance policy if they were not planning to get it just for the payout. Ouch! He still gets his head broken with the thrown teddy bears. The excuse still doesn't sit well with Dae Bok because of the fear of failure since the couples haven't signed up. Han Deul argues that a huge insurance contract rate doesn't equate to a high-profit rate, but Dae Bok wouldn't have it at all. He boasts of being a top insurance agent, so why is she trying to lecture him? Aigoo.. ajhussi, take a breather, please.
Na Rae comes in and supports Han Deul, saying that contracts with a high possibility of divorce will cause losses for them. Dae Bok flips like a switch immediately and supports the method; ajhussi, won't you like to pick a side at this point? Na Rae ignores his buttering as usual and asks Han Deul how they plan to boost both the contract and profit rate. Han Deul explains that the couples' probability of getting a divorce will be calculated before they can get signed up. They will also assess and apply a surcharge to the premium in order to minimize losses.
Na Rae is still not satisfied and argues about the lack of skilled underwriters who can review and evaluate such complicated terms and conditions. They cannot hire more just because of a single product. Ki Jun counters by using AI-based underwriting to write the first round; then the team will conduct in-person interviews. Dae Bok nods in support at this point, finally seeing the light. Jeon Man chips in that the parsing data has been handed over to the tech support team, and the test will be on the afternoon of that same day.
Dae Bok gets a compulsory invitation because he's the only married person on the team, and Na Rae approves of the idea. Dae Bok asks if she will be joining the sample tests, and she responds that they already have enough divorcees for sample tests. Ki Jun and Jeon Man raise their heads at the statement, and Ki Jun reminds them that he's a multi-divorcee, raising three fingers in the air.
Ah Young compliments Han Deul for taking full responsibility at the meeting and asks why she made them sleep at Ki Jun's place instead of hers. This takes us back to why they woke up at Ki Jun's house. Ah Young had asked that she crash at Han Deul's place, but she was trying to conceal the house, since her house is empty, thanks to her ex-husband. Ki Jun jumped in and suggested they sleep over at his guest room, bribing them with chicken and beer.
Back to the present, Ah Young continues that she saw Ki Jun taking a call when she was going to the bathroom in the morning, where he was telling the other person to cut down on their drinks and reply to his texts because being left unread drives him crazy. He also added that they don't skip their hair appointment if they don't want him to take drastic measures. She concludes that early morning calls must be made to a woman, and Han Deul says she's not sure about that.
Jeon Man and Ki Jun go out for pizza and bicker about how it should be eaten. Their nicknames should be bickering twins at this point! Ki Jun fishes out his phone to download an ovulation tracking app because it will be a special provision for the insurance, but Jeon Man counters with the app being for his girlfriend. Jeon Man asks if he knows anyone's menstrual cycle date. He answers no, so Jeon Man suggests November 23rd, which is the monthly sneaker-washing day, because it's important to him. Two jolly weird friends!
Ki Jun releases a sigh that this is the reason one shouldn't try to mend fences with ex-friends, and Jeon Man asks who said it. Ki Jun responds with Schopenhauer. Jeon Man came up with his own line that you can recognize a person by their shoes, which was said by Cleantopia, a leading Korean laundry shop. Jeon Man just doesn't like losing!
Ki Jun and Han Deul wheel in a teddy for the underwriting project, which Dae Bok and Ah Young end up mistaking for the AI. The testing begins with Dae Bok as married, Ah Young as single, Jeon Man as divorced, Ki Jun as multi-divorcee, and Oh Yeong Do of another department as remarried. Dae Bok's final score marks him as high-risk insurance, and Ki Jun stares at the screen when he is asked what led him to be a multi-divorcee. We have another point for some backstory insight.
We get a flashback of Ki Jun talking with his sister, Jin Ju, who wanted a divorce because she was not happy. He made a light statement that not everyone is happy in their marriage, ignoring her deep feelings of wanting the smallest things done out of love. Ends the conversation with him, saying she expects too much, hence she's unhappy. She leaves the house, and he runs after her, but she only turns briefly before going further into the street.
One of the officials tells Na Rae about the low probability of couples coming for the underwriting assessment. Still, the company floor gets flooded with all the registered couples before he can blink. The couples take turns doing the interview, and our dramatic mothers-in-law show up together with their checklists. Jeon Man checks the documents as they chat away with Jeon Man about how they got to the agreement point.
Jeon Man announces that the contract's effective date will be the same as the marriage registration date because there is the possibility of cancellation even on the wedding day. Of course, he gets chewed out by both mothers, and Ki Jun comes to his rescue that they just have to be thorough since it's a contract and sacrificing himself as the person whose marriage ended immediately after the wedding. The sizzling mothers fizzle to a sober mode and offer him comfort, agreeing to follow the procedure as the meeting ends with a smile, finally!
The bride's mother offers Ki Jun a wedding invitation and brags about her daughter's pretty friends, and he responds that he has to be there then. We know what you are doing there, ajhumma! He lightens up their moods more and walks them out, making Ah Young say he resembles a middle-aged woman, and Jeon Man chips it in that it's part of his charm.
Senior Managing Director seems to be plotting something tricky with Na Rae about the insurance and getting it across to the China branch. The quota is finally met after the interview, and Dae Bok is the happiest man alive with the newest development. He offers to treat Ki Jun to a sliced beef belly or pork, but Jeon Man suggests tenderloin, only to earn a killing stare from Dae Bok. Ki Jun pushes the treat forward to another time because of a prior engagement, and Ah Young whispers to Han Deul that he's definitely going to see his girlfriend.
Jeon Man reads the question for the next day's alarm to Ki Jun who chases him that he will not be able to put off the alarm, considering the technicality of the question. Ah, Young realizes that he uses the Black-Scholes model for this alarm question, which helps to measure the dynamics of a financial market containing derivative investment instruments.
The appointment ends up being having to take out the trash, and he suggests to Han Deul that they make a timetable for taking the trash out at the park, where they meet on the swing, which she declines. She's also coming back from taking her trash out for recycling, and he assures her that he will ignore her when she's taking out the trash the next time they run into each other.
Ki Jun opens up about how he thinks he went too far by meddling with the couple, since everyone is talking about happiness and trust in marriage. She tells him to think of the insurance as an umbrella that he will give back to the couple when it rains, because there is nothing they can do to prevent rain from falling after all. Ki Jun remembers telling his sister she didn't try hard enough after she stated that some things can't be fixed even if one tries hard. The rain interrupts the moment, and they seek shelter. He ends up inviting her to the wedding, and she agrees.
Taking the subway, they attend the wedding with all smiles and slow tension between them as the train moves to their destination. The groom and bride refuse to show up at the wedding venue, putting the families under pressure. They get connected to the wedding hall through a video call on the way to their honeymoon. They spill the beans further about how their moms got divorce insurance on their behalf because of the follow-up from the insurance team, so they decided to pull a surprise by not showing up as a payback, promising to live happily, so there wouldn't be any payout.
The mothers walk down the aisle and take the wedding and take the oath in place of the couple, and the wedding ends well. Ki Jun comments that it's the most genuine wedding he has ever attended, while Han Deul supports that they are indeed happy couples, which lightens the mothers' moods the more. The mothers insist they take the wedding limousine as their ride back home since the couple didn't use it and they can't get a refund, and they refuse, only to get threatened with policy cancellation. There's no antidote to escaping the trap of these unified mothers, haha!
In a flash, they sit in the car and wave goodbye to the mothers, who look satisfied. The limo gets trapped in traffic, and they get down, holding hands like a couple as they walk through the other angry drivers' cars, while some clap and cheer them on as they mistake them for newlyweds. Ki Jun's ovulation day alarm goes off, and he calls Jeon Man to get running in 8.18 million per second if he's done washing his sneakers because five contracts were rejected, and they have to get replacements. The episode ends with Ki Jun meeting up with his sister's ex-husband, Uh-Hyeong, at the National Museum, where he begs him to buy an insurance policy from him.
This episode is lively and fun, with the characters getting equal limelight. No one is left behind, even though there's more revelation of Ki Jun's past. Our main leads are also having a good and subtle romantic connection, not making the atmosphere tense and all about work. This is a good upgrade from the last two episodes.
The next episode gives a sneak peek into the stress of getting more contracts signed as the members beg people they know to help them out. Jeon Man and Na Rae's connection seems to deepen, and Han Deul is still running into her ex-husband, who accuses her of stalking him. Episode four looks like a chaotic one, but that's also part of the drama.
