Tioluwa is a lover of all things good story telling and adventure, so it's no surprise she's officially hooked to all things Korean. She believes learning and having fun is synonymous and prides herself a K-drama guru. From Korean lifestyle to history, she's all over it like sauce on kimchi.
Hi, Chingus!
Imagine a world without your favorite K-dramas, it probably feels so bleak, empty, and without our favorite movie lines. How I lived my life without K-dramas remains a huge mystery. Hallyuwood would be a world of beautiful and talented celebs with fans or defining work without the original MVPs aka Screenwriters.
These are Hallyuwood silent superheroes with magic in their hands, and pens and are behind every favorite scene, dialogue, and character that we absolutely adore. Each with a unique style that has garnered fans both at home and abroad.
Here are some of these talented writers and the popular dramas they are known for:
Kim Eun Sook is a veteran screenwriter in South Korea’s movie scene, with her dramas and films always setting records for viewer ratings and garnering popularity across the world. She is very popular for her romance and melodramatic genre of scripts mostly including main lead Chaebols with lower-class love interests in a relationship that is doomed to fail. However, her plays are always star-studded and you are sure to catch your favorite celebs there.
Some of her popular hits are Secret Garden, The Heirs, Descendants of the Sun, Goblin: The Lonely and Great God, The King: Eternal Monarch, and her latest being The Glory.
Kim Eun Hee is another absolutely brilliant mind whose hits have kept many glued to the K-drama internet. Although she started her career as an entertainment writer, she finally found her movie-writing calling, and we are so glad.
She is known for writing thrillers and mystery screenplays, often with spiritual and medical themes in a beautifully layered storytelling style. Talk about depth and rich storylines, then she’s your gal. You might forget how to laugh, but you’re definitely going to have one or two quotes and deep thoughts after you’re done with any of her masterpieces.
Her works include Sign, Signal, Kingdom, Jirisan, Phantom and Revenant
If you love a nice pie made out of comedy, love, and many cups of fantasy, then the Hong Sisters are your soulmates. This extraordinary screenwriting duo is made up of Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran. They should be queens of romantic comedies and romantic comedies mixed with fantasies because you’re sure to have an entire swarm of butterflies in your stomach when you’re done with their dramas.
A good number of their work have also shot some of our favorite celebs into the limelight and made them both household names and international Hallyu wave stars.
A number of their works are You Are Beautiful, Sassy Girl, My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox, A Korean Odyssey, Hotel Del Luna, and Alchemy of Souls.
Another absolute gem in the romantic comedy department with a splash of any genre that will always work. Park Ji Eun is able to create a romantic love story out of oxygen and you’ll definitely cry, fall in love, and do it all over again in every episode.
Her series have garnered her the title of one of the most high-profile screenwriters in South Korea. Some of her award-winning plays are My Love from the Star, Legend of the Blue Sea, The Producers, Crash Landing on You, and her most recent, Queen of Tears.
No Hee Kyung is an essayist and the founder of the drama production agency GTist which she manages with famous director Kim Kyu-tae and Hong Jong-chan; Studio Dragon is also a major shareholder in this company, so she’s that much of a big deal. Hee Kyung uses a realistic everyday average-human approach to her storytelling, giving more depth into their lives, and emotions and showing the audience life from their perspectives.
Some of her portfolios are That Winter The Wind Blows, It's Okay, That's Love, Dear My Friends, Live, and Our Blues.
As much as we always look forward to new series and films and praise actors and actresses for their brilliant acting and performance, always remember to appreciate the creator of these masterpieces.
