8 Amazing Romance Kdramas with Older Female Leads

Just like in Nigeria, especially the part where I come from, age is a major thing in Korea. In this light, we already know how much value is given to age, respect, and the use of honorifics in Korea. Regardless, when it comes to matters of the heart, we have realized by now that age is just a number.

Even though there might be general beliefs that the male should be older in a romantic relationship, some K-dramas have broken these stereotypes and made us realize that love conquers all.

Here is a list of 8 older female lead, and younger male lead K-series we think you should watch.

  • Encounter (2018)

Synopsis: Cha Soo Hyun(Song Hye-ko) is the daughter of a politician in her late thirties who became divorced from her marriage of convenience and became the CEO of a hotel. When she goes to Cuba to fulfill her responsibilities as a CEO, she meets Kim Jin Hyuk (Park Bo Gum), a 20-year-old who came on a tour.

With an age difference of up to 10 years, it’s amazing how this love story turns out.

  • Something In The Rain (2018)

Synopsis: Yoon Jin Ah (Son Ye Jin), a woman with a messy love life who has been dumped by several men for different reasons, meets Joon Hee (Jung Hae-in), the younger brother of her longtime best friend. Although she has always thought of him as a kid, his appearance as a grown man blows her away and she finally yields to his relentless attempts at winning her heart.

What will it be like to fall in love with the younger brother of your best friend? It sounds ridiculous right? You should see for yourself how it played out in this K-drama.

  • Romance Is A Bonus Book (2019)

Synopsis: The series tells the story of Kang Dan-I (Lee Na-young) and Cha Eun-ho (Lee Jong-suk). While Kang Dan-I is a divorced mother of one, Cha Eun-ho is a young and successful author who is also the editor-in-chief of a book publishing company. However, their love, which seems impossible because of their age difference and career success, soon becomes victorious.

Watching this series was an eye-opener for me as it was the first older-female, younger-male K-series I watched as it changed the belief of older-male, younger-female I have always held on to. This is an interesting piece you should give a trial.

  • Search WWW (2019)

Synopsis: The story revolves around the life of three career women who chose their careers over family roles. However, one of them, Bae Ta Min (Im Soo-Jung), a director in her late thirties who began to doubt her decision, comes across Park Mo Gun (Jang Ki-young), a talented composer who falls for her uniqueness. The fact that the young male lead was not afraid to pursue his older love interest is one thing that will stun you.

  • Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung (2019)

Synopsis: In the Joseon dynasty, Goo Hae Ryung (Shin Se-Kyung)  is a 26-year-old intern who wants to become a palace historian, but she faces obstacles because women are not allowed to write history. She meets and falls for 20-year-old Prince Yi Rim (Cha Eun-woo) who has a secret of his own.

Such love in the Joseon dynasty?! Let’s leave out the hot male lead. This is worth a watch.

  • Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol (2020)

Synopsis: After losing everything her father owned because of his death and being abandoned by her fiance, a lady pianist (Go Ara) relocates to the countryside. She meets a high school student (Lee Jae-wook) who was mistaken for an adult and their love story unravels

This is another masterpiece you don’t want to miss.

  • Forecasting Love And Weather (2022)

Synopsis: This drama tells the story of 35-year-old Jin Ha-Kyung (Park Min-young) and 27-year-old Lee Shi-woo ( Song Kang) who work at the National Weather Service. They journey to balance their work life and love life.

Watch the queen of romance “Park Min-young” deliver her role excellently in this series.

  • Why Her? (2022)

An Attorney ( Seo Hyun-jin) who mishandled an important case is demoted and forced to teach at a law school. Gong Chan (Hwang In-yeop), a student, falls in love and helps her make her way back to the firm.

I have heard of students falling in love with teachers and vice versa. Would this be different? Find out by watching this amazing series.

Of course, since the inception of the Hallyu wave, there have been many K-dramas like this, but these are a pick of the most recent ones.
