The Hong Sisters, Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran, are a powerhouse writing duo who’ve been serving us hits since the early 2000s. Their signature style combines humor, romance, and a touch of fantasy, making their stories a perfect taste for fans around the globe.

They have never failed in the combination of their relatable characters, cultural elements, and chaos to get you on the edge of your seat. This perfection still doesn’t mean they won’t tug at your heartstrings and make you shed tears when you least expect it.

My Girl (2005-2006)

This drama launched them into the K-drama fans’ screens and was the ultimate rom-com of its time. This story was one of a kind. A poor girl pretended to be a chaebol’s cousin, and the drama between getting caught and an unintentional love story made fans sweat! You’re Beautiful (2009)

You are a K-drama fan and you haven’t seen this? We need to question your badge! They take disguise to another level when a girl disguises herself as a boy to join a famous boy band. Forget K-pop groups, fans enjoyed every bit of the onscreen A.N.JELL chemistry and complicated love rectangle. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (2010)

Put aside the perfect OSTs of this drama for a minute, the plot was fire! It was a perfect mix of fantasy and romance. A nine-tailed fox (Gumiho) dreamt of becoming human and it wasn’t as easy as she had thought. The onscreen bickering, frustration, cute moments, sacrifices, and brutal paybacks of the leads: Shin Min Ah and Lee Seung Gi was something unforgettable.  

Master’s Sun (2013)

Once again, what is Hong Sisters without a touch of fantasy? What do you mean by ghosts and romance? However, they ate it up! This drama balanced spooky feels with a melting love story, as a man hired a woman who could see ghosts for a partnership that transitioned into a relationship. Awww!

Hotel Del Luna (2019)

This might be one of their most visually stunning works in history. This drama featured IU as the charismatic owner of a hotel for ghosts. It contained a blend of romance, horror, and secrets that made us gasp. The tears? We cried buckets!

Alchemy of Souls (2022-2023)

This drama is the king of all masterpieces the sisters wrote. They took fantasy to a whole new level that no one might be able to touch in a decade. The twists were never predictable; the entire K-drama fandom and other casual viewers argued a lot on X and Instagram about Naksu’s return and the irony? No one got it!
