On this side of the world, we are now rolling into the summer holiday for students and August Break for the weather. Most of the ongoing dramas have ended this July, which means we will be stepping into another world of new dramas.
One thing stands out in this August cast, and it is the fact that they are old actors and actresses coming to blow up our screens! Who said only the younger actors can give us the jaem? From bold medical thrillers and legal dramas to light romance, fantasy action, and family warmth, we are in for a fantastic August's lineup that teases a varied and engaging mix for every K‑drama fan.
Mary Kills People — Premieres August 1
This MBC medical thriller and dark comedy stars Lee Bo‑Young as Dr. Woo So Jeong. She saves lives during the day but helps terminal patients choose to die with dignity secretly. This catches the attention of a detective played by Lee Min Ki, and her secret operations get threatened. There will be moral tension, bending of rules, and emotional twists.
My Lovely Journey — Premieres August 2
Former idol Kang Yeo Reum (Gong Seung Yeon) reinvents herself as a travel journalist. Her assignments take her all over, unlocking reflections, healing, and new connections. Through others’ stories, she rediscovers who she truly is and finds herself. This gentle slice‑of‑life drama promises us mushy, emotional, soft, and warm moments accompanied with tissues in hand.
Beyond The Bar – Premieres August 2
Legal drama lovers should get ready for a workplace drama on JTBC/Netflix. Rookie lawyer Kang Hyo Min (Jung Chae Yeon) joins Yeolim Law Firm under the cold, brilliant guidance of Yoon Seok Hoon (Lee Jin Wook). We all should get ready for some burnout, mysterious, and defiant moments before the coldness of the expert Yoon Seok Hoon melts.
Love, Take Two – Premieres August 4
Yum Jung‑Ah stars as single mom Lee Ji‑An, moving to a peaceful rural town with her college‑age daughter. The peaceful ride gets turbulent when she bumps into her first love, who is also raising a child. The similarities will ignite old sparks between them and funny and heartfelt moments between them. This drama is perfect for anyone who believes in second chances and new beginnings.
Our Golden Days – Premieres August 9
This 50-episode family drama will hit the KBS2 screen, where we will watch people growing up and changing values through generations. What unites a multi‑generation household facing modern life? Optimistic café manager Ji Eun‑O (Jung In Sun) strives to balance life between young and old through lessons to the whole family.
My Troublesome Star – Premieres August 18
This rom-com will air on ENA/Genie TV, where film star Bong Cheong‑Ja (Uhm Jung Hwa) disappears and reappears as a middle‑aged woman, losing 25 years of memory. Life crosses her path with weary detective Doggo Cheol (Song Seung Heon), and their past comes to light. With Uhm Jung Hwa, you can expect chaos, mature chemistry, and a lot of laughter.
AEMA – Premieres August 22
With AEMA, we are riding back to the 1980s on Netflix as we revisit the making of a provocative film of the corrupted movie industry and gender bias. Movie star Lee Ha Nee and co‑star Bang Hyo Jin defy the backstage rules in a male‑dominated world as they put their strength into breaking the norms in six bold episodes.
Twelve – Premieres August 23
Fantasy and superhero combo? We are all in! Twelve angels disguise themselves as humans to ward off evil spirits threatening Korea, and the cast is powerful: Ma Dong Seok, Park Hyung Sik, and Seo In Guk. Of course, the drama will be visually striking, full of action, thrilling, and dramatic like the cast.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (a.k.a. The Tyrant’s Chef) — Premieres August 23
A brilliant French-trained chef slips into the Joseon dynasty and ends up cooking for a gourmet‑obsessed tyrant king (played by Lee Chae‑Min). It will air on Netflix and tvN as a rom-com mixed with food, palace games, time-slip drama, and unexpected chemistry from all sides.
We will be spoiled silly in August, so we should start preparing our stomachs for it. These dramas look yummy with great promises to deliver, and we cannot wait for them to hit our screens officially. Happy Watching!
