City dramas account for the largest percentage of K-dramas each year. However, the feelings that refresh our hearts are those set in the peaceful countryside.
Instead of skyscrapers, we get to see rice fields. We trade traffic noise for chirping cicadas and high heels for rubber slippers that look funny. Countryside K-dramas slow down the city rush, help us breathe deeply, and fall in love all over again with life, people, and sometimes animals.
Here are a few heartwarming dramas that transported us straight into Korea’s scenic villages and melted our hearts.
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

If you have ever dreamed of quitting your city job and moving somewhere calm, this drama is your fantasy come true. When dentist Yoon Hye-jin relocated to the seaside village of Gongjin, she met Chief Hong, who can fix anything broken, whether it is a roof or a heart. Their banter, village gossip, and incredible ocean sunsets made us all want to pack our bags and relocate to the coast. It showed us that kindness, laughter, and community matter more than luxury and ambition at some point in life.
When the Camellia Blooms

Although the town of Ongsan was fictional, the story of Dong-baek, a single mother running a bar and raising her son, had us on the edge of our seats. The local police officer, Yong-sik, fell head over heels for her, and together, they proved that true love could be born out of sincerity and courage. The town’s quirky neighbors, heartfelt friendships, and rural warmth gave us comforting episodes.
Our Blues

This drama unfolds through various interconnected stories of people living and working on Jeju Island. The breathtaking scenery was a good pair with the down-to-earth characters. Their stories showed how life’s joys and sorrows can coexist beautifully. It captured the essence of rural life, where community, forgiveness, and emotional healing thrive, as everyone wants to live in peace, surrounded by the sound of the sea.
Once Upon a Small Town

City vet Han Ji-yul, who moved to a small village unwillingly, soon found himself surrounded by nosy neighbors, adorable farm animals, and one charming police officer, Ahn Ja-young. The gentle pace, animal-filled scenes, and sweet romance deliver the perfect rural escapism. He ended up falling in love with his new life and all that came with it.
Countryside K-dramas offer a respite from the chaotic and stressful life in the city, reminding us of the beauty of simplicity in nature. From seaside sunsets and farm life to a warm bowl of stew shared between neighbors, these shows prove that sometimes, the most touching stories are created far away from the city rush.
Which of these dramas is your favorite?
