Park Jin Young, also called Jinyoung, is a South Korean singer, actor, songwriter, and member of the popular K-pop group GOT7. He is famous for his honest personality, strong acting, and heartfelt music.
Jinyoung was born in Changwon, South Korea, on September 22, 1994. He grew up with the dream of being a storyteller and even thought about becoming a preschool teacher because he loved reading and telling stories to children before he auditioned for JYP Entertainment in 2009 and later debuted as an actor in Dream High 2 in 2012. In 2014, he debuted as a singer with GOT7.
Although Jinyoung sings, he also writes songs. He wrote several tracks for GOT7, including Thank You, My Youth and Love You Better, and worked on the duo JJ Project. In 2023, he released his solo album “Chapter 0: WITH,” exploring his feelings and musical growth over the years.
Even though he didn’t become a storyteller, he debuted as an actor who has many notable roles:
After his debut appearance in Dream High 2, he starred in “He Is Psychometric” as Lee Ahn, the lead actor, showing his fun and caring side even though he had a painful past. In “Yumi’s Cells 2” (2022), he played Yoo Babi who is romantic and kind. He shared that he did not want to just copy the webtoon; he wanted to act in his own style and he did excellently well.
His first big film role was in “Christmas Carol” (2022), where he played twin brothers; one is kind, and the other is a bag of trouble. He said he read the original novel to prepare and was proud of the film’s deep message. In 2025, after military service, he starred in “The Witch” as data miner Lee Dong‑jin, where his calm and earnest acting earned praise from viewers and critics.
His role in “The Devil’s Judge” in 2021 shot him to fame as people fell in love with his character as a righteous judge who was always clashing with the mysterious judge played by Ji Sung. Their bromance made the tension in the drama shoot through the roof, and is one of his biggest dramas to date. He recently starred in “Our Unwritten Seoul” with Park Bo Young, where he played Lee Ho Su, the upright son with great emotional baggage.
Outside his professional life, Jinyoung is seen as thoughtful and caring. Fans call him wholesome and genuine. He enjoys reading, photography, walking, and playing piano. He also learned English and Japanese to talk with global fans so he can be closer.
In interviews, he shared that he often felt anxious in his early 20s, but now he is calmer: “I feel less anxious… regardless of the result.” He plans to grow more in his 30s as an actor who can tell any story. During his military service, he learned to think more flexibly about life and gained strength from his fans’ messages.
Jinyoung excels in both music and acting, switching smoothly between stage and screen. His roles often show real and raw feelings, which fans love because he’s a lifelong learner. He’s known as the "Mother" in GOT7 due to how he cares for his group and fans.
Park Jin Young is a true multi-talented star whose journey from debuting in dramas to leading films, balancing K-pop and acting, shows his hard work and passion. His fans specifically love him for his honesty, growth, and gentle presence, which he constantly portrays both in his professional and daily life.
If you haven’t seen any of his dramas, it’s high time you reconsidered. If you have seen any of his dramas, what's your favorite Jinyoung role?
