Hi Hamkkeclan, and welcome to the Hamkke Chatroom once again! 🎉
I am not the only one who’s always excited to do this, right? Speaking to Korean enthusiasts like you and hearing your Hallyu stories gives me so much joy. 💜
In this chat room, we have Lois, a longtime Hallyu fan who has been obsessing over all things Korean since her secondary school days.
Not to bore you with my chitchat, let’s hear from the horse’s mouth. Come with me!
Hey Lois, what sparked your interest in Korean culture, and how long have you been a fan?
Lois: Hi! I've been a K-Drama fan for years, since maybe junior secondary school, and my interest in Korean culture started with my first drama, A Man Called God.
I was immediately drawn in by the storytelling, the emotional depth, and the beautifully shot cinematography. As I watched more, I became fascinated by Korean traditions, food, and even the language. The way K-dramas blend romance, comedy, and heartwarming moments made me fall in love with them, and that love naturally extended to Korean culture as a whole. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m always excited to discover more
Sounds like the typical Hallyu beginning for us all. So, what part of Korean culture interests you the most?
Lois: That’s a hard question because everything interests me, from language to food, from fashion to culture, and more! However, I’m most interested in entertainment. Although I have reservations about historical dramas (not really my thing), everything K-Drama and K-pop? I’m in!
What's your favorite K-Drama of all time, and what made it so compelling to you?
Lois: Favorite K-Drama of all time? This is tough, but I'd say Goblin (Guardian: The Lonely and Great God).
The mix of fantasy, romance, and emotional depth was unmatched. The cinematography, soundtrack, and storytelling made it unforgettable.
Which K-Drama genre and trope does it for you best, and why?
Lois: Fantasy romance and sometimes melodrama are good. But for me, I LOVE LOVE K-Drama with things about tragic love stories, reincarnation, or time travel always gets me. The Cinderella and the Four Knights trope is another favorite when characters build deep, meaningful bonds.
Sounds like someone wants a Cinderella story.
Lois: Who doesn’t? 🤣🤣
Do you love K-pop? Which K-pop group or artist is your favorite, and what do you love about their music or performances?
Lois: Yes! I enjoy K-pop, but my favorites depend on my mood. Groups like BTS and EXO have great stage presence,
while soloists like IU and Taeyeon have amazing vocals. Their music is both emotionally powerful and addictive. 🎶🎤
Are there any Korean celebrities or public figures who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them? (Fandom and Stanship)
Lois: Gong Yoo is a legend—his acting range is insane!
Kim Go-eun is another one, and their pairing in Goblin has me in a chokehold. As innnnn, you dig? 😉.
Of course, I do. Have you attended any K-pop concerts or events in Nigeria or abroad? If so, can you describe the experience?
Lois: Haven’t attended one yet, but it’s on my bucket list! Watching live performances through fan cams already gives me chills, so I can only imagine the real experience.
I hope you share your experience with us when you finally attend one.
Lois: Definitely!
Do you have a favorite reality TV show?
Lois: Running Man!
The chemistry between the cast, the hilarious games, and the guest interactions? Everything just makes it a classic! Single’s Inferno is also entertaining when I’m in the mood for dating shows.
What would you say about the Korean media and entertainment industry generally?
Lois: It's one of the best globally. 🌏✨ The storytelling, production quality, and emotional depth in K-dramas and films make them stand out. K-pop’s influence is massive, and the dedication of artists is inspiring. However, the industry’s intense work culture and pressure on idols and actors can be concerning. I LOVE K-DRAMAS! 🥰📺💜
From heartwarming dramas to electrifying performances, the Hallyu wave continues to leave a lasting impact on fans like Lois.
A special shout-out to Lois for doing this with us!
