If Afrobeats and K-pop Had a Baby: What That Collab Would Sound Like

If Afrobeats and K-pop Had a Baby: What That Collab Would Sound Like - featured image

Have you ever heard a K-Pop song and thought to yourself, "Hold on, did Burna Boy or Simi make this and they didn’t tell us about it?!"

Korea Africa Collaboration

Because if we are being honest, some K-Pop songs sound overtly similar to Afrobeats songs but in Korean and sometimes a mixture of Korean and English. The beat drops, the hook goes off, and next thing you realize, you're in Lagos and Seoul at the same time.

If you’ve listened to Afrobeats and K-Pop, then you know both are aggressive in tone and nature.

They're loud, dramatic, catchy, and are always right there in our faces. I mean, if Tems is not dropping an album this week, Black Pink is having a tour.

Now imagine the two of them making a song together. That’s the next level of heat we didn’t ask for but wouldn’t mind having.

Now, let’s just imagine.

The Beat Would be Illegal Levels of Sweet

Korea Africa Collaboration

When I say the beat will be so topnotch, it would almost seem illegal, just know I am not sugarcoating that. Afrobeats is that friend that steals the spotlight just by walking in. The percussion and rhythm just hit differently, and the next thing you know you’re dancing already. On the flip side, K-Pop is that friend that gives structure to the chaos. There’s harmonies, layered instrumentals, clean transitions, and that classic hook.

Now put them all together now. A silky K-pop pre-chorus and a drum-heavy Afrobeats hook. If you just imagined that beat collaboration, I know you are already wishing for something like that because that song will live rent-free in our heads for months.

The Madness level choreography

Most of the time, what is K-pop without those moves you try to recreate and sprain your ankle while at it?  And why won’t you sprain your leg? The choreographers probably spent hours and hours perfecting those moves too. However, Afrobeats really don't need to practice because it’s not really about the dance. It is all about vibes, freestyles, and energy.

So when you combine everything, the moves, vibes, and energy. Trust me, no one is returning home the same way because that collaboration will humble knees and dance floors around the world.

The Language Combination Will Be Insane

Korea Africa Collaboration

This would definitely be the most hilarious and interesting part of this mashup. “Baby mi Oppa” might sound weird when you speak it randomly, but it will definitely slap hard when put into a chorus.

K-pop artists have been known to add an English line into their songs, and our very own Afrobeats are all based on pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo, and slang. A collaboration may introduce to us a chorus using Korean, English, and Nigerian street talk like siblings fighting but still able to give off good energy. Imagine a line that said: “Baby mi Oppa, I can’t trade you for nobody andwae.” From actual K-pop and Afrobeat artists. if that does not break TikTok, I don't know what will.

The Stage Energy Will Explode

Korea Africa Collaboration

K-Pop owns the stage like it’s their domain every time. Everything goes into precision. From the lighting cues to the wardrobe changes and everything else. Afrobeats performers? They come prepared like they are going for a walk in a park. The sweat, the crowd work, and ad libs? Epic! Put both of those energy levels together. I know for a fact that not a single person is going to be sitting. I mean, I am sure you are not letting the Rema and BTS collaboration energy go to waste.

The Fandoms Will Crash the Internet

Korea Africa Collaboration

This part might actually freak the network providers out. If there’s anything Koreans and Nigerians have in common, it’s how to stan their favorite celebrity to the end of the world. Now imagine these fans coming together to vibe to just one song. There will be “streaming goals”, “dance challenge goals”, and there might even be at least one global hashtag Trending for an entire week if not month. TikTok will look like a war zone of transitions and dance covers and the collaboration will practically live on everyone's FYP.

With the way Afrobeat and K-pop artists are moving simultaneously, I know for a fact that either soon or in the near future, this collaboration will surely happen.

So when that day comes, just know you saw it here first. Now tell me, which Afrobeat-K-pop collaboration are you expecting?
