T. sapphire is a writer who found her love for the Hallyu wave after watching the historical drama âJumong.â She is mainly interested in Korean dramas and the history of Korea at large. Moana is an absolute gem when it comes to Disney movies with an adventurous and heartfelt storyline. Just because you enjoyed the previous castings of Korean celebrities into Disney characters, letâs reimagine this story (Moanaâs) through the lens of Korean celebrities and K-Drama vibes.
Moana follows a brave young woman who sets out on a daring journey to save her people. With the demigod Maui by her side, she faces monsters, discovers her true self, and restores balance to the world.
Letâs dive into the casting!
You will agree with me that Kim Go Eun fits this role because sheâs a two-time adventure seeker in both King Eternal Monarch when she crossed the parallel line and still did it as many times as possible and when she boldly accepted to be a Goblinâs bride and even followed him to other countries just by the opening of a door in Goblin. Kim Go Eunâs roles showcase her adventurous spirit and courage in these dramas, and thatâs why sheâs a perfect fit for Moanaâs. Just like Moana, she will be able to embrace her destiny and set sail on an epic journey.
You canât think of Maui without imagining someone so large that you would not get a glimpse of the stage if they stood in front of you at a concert. They must be endowed in both physique and personality, and Ma Dong Seok fits the bill perfectly!
Just because he has proven in Train to Busan that he can switch between humorous and heroic acts with ease, we already know heâs our man for the Maui role. Plus, who wouldnât want to see him bust out âYouâre Welcomeâ while flashing that cheeky grin?
If we are considering the physical appearance and looks of Tala, Kim Hae-sook Ahjumma would have been my go-to cast. However, Kim Hye Soo, the queen of wisdom in Under the Queenâs Umbrella, would make a stellar Tala. Like Moanaâs loving and mystical grandmother inspires her (Moana) to embrace her destiny, Kim Hye Soo helped all her children and even stepchildren embrace theirs in the series. Picture her telling Moana about their ancestors with her usual heartfelt delivery. Goosebumps!
Kim So Yeon, known for her dynamic roles in The Penthouse and Tale of the Nine-tailed 1938, is the perfect choice to play both Te KÄ and Te Fiti. We all know about her ability to portray intense, fiery characters who virtually throw fire beams from her eyes, mirroring the destructive and vengeful nature of Te KÄ. At the same time, her softer and more vulnerable side aligns beautifully with Te Fitiâs nurturing and serene nature. I am sure sheâs giving us an Oscar-worthy performance.
This cast feels like a perfect balance of talent and energy to bring Moana to life in a Korean adaptation, right?
What do you think? Would this cast sail into your heart or crash against the reef?
