I really don’t know how I did almost all forms of K-dramas recommendations for my chingus and almost missed out on this one.
While some K dramas give us romance, others give us trauma, but occasionally, a few come to bless our screen with not just good story lines but good music as well. I am not talking about the dramas with cute OSTs alone, but the ones that have actual singers in them, those that make sure you are not just watching the screenplay, but you are compiling a playlist as well.
So if you need K dramas that give you story, emotion, and songs, you will add to your Spottily, here are the ones that fit in the description.
Twinkling Watermelon

This drama follows Eun Gyeol, a hearing son in a family of deaf parents, who somehow time-travels back to 1995 and meets his teenage father. He ends up forming a band (the icing on the cake), navigating friendships, complicated family emotions, and unspoken dreams. The drama is heartfelt, musical, and emotional. The music in this one carries the story. You will literally feel the lyrics, not just hear them, in addition to the fact that it’s a great drama with meaningful friendships and relationships.
Castaway Diva

Castaway Diva is the story of Seo Mok-ha, who dreams of becoming a singer but ends up stranded on a deserted island for 15 years. Although she has been washed up during those 15 years. Wanting to give back to her idol, being her reason to live, she becomes her idol's manager, helping her achieve stardom once more. It is not just about singing; it is about what happens after life gets in the way of your dream, with subtle hints towards the domestic violence trope.
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol

This drama not only has one of the longest titles, it also sounds somewhat weird. It follows the story of a cheerful pianist named Goo Ra-ra who loses everything and ends up in a small town, where she meets Sunwoo Joon, a quiet young man with a past of his own. The music builds their story slowly and naturally. It is warm, lighthearted, and emotional. This one is one of those comfort dramas you watch when you need a break from emotional trauma and serial killers.
The Liar and His Lover

This one tells the story of a genius composer hiding behind a famous band, and a high school girl with a voice so pure it ruins his emotional guard. It is about music, ambition, creative jealousy, and the price of honesty. The songs in this drama will sit right in your memory in a good way. It’s a low-conflict series with a simple storyline, but something about it just stays.
Imitation

This drama is set in the K-pop idol industry, and it follows rookie idols struggling to survive, stay relevant, and stay human in an industry that sees them as products. It shows stage life, practice room frustrations, and moments when music feels like both a dream and a burden. If you are curious about what actually goes on in the K-pop industry and how these perfect-looking idols navigate their behind-the-scenes life, then this series is your teacher.
Namib

Namib takes a slightly different route. It is a musical healing drama about a former songwriter who retreats to a quiet coastal village after losing her career and confidence. There, she ends up creating music again, not for success but for herself. The drama is slow-paced, soothing, and filled with the type of songs that will make you relax in a quiet sunset. It is not flashy, but it is emotionally honest, and that is just enough.
Musical K dramas are calm in a different way. Unlike serial killer or legal-based dramas, the stories are not always loud, but they stay with you quietly, like good music usually does.
So tell me in the comments, are you a musical K-Drama person, and which of these have you seen?
