If there’s anything I lack in abundance, it’s ‘patience’. Yes! I don’t have it, and before you judge me, I’ll tell you it's not my fault, I just don’t have the ability to keep waiting and anticipating something (most especially weekly episodic releases of K-dramas) and that’s why I was late to watch the series ‘Lovely Runner.’ Of course I knew about its release and speaking of hype, it really got a worthy one.
While I was waiting for it to finish airing so I can binge watch, trust me not to stay away from everything that had to do with it in the media and I saw how people loved and hyped it and I even got spoilers, however, after taking my time to binge watch the series, I noticed there are actually some things and details that were not hyped enough. I mean, people might have noticed these things, but they didn’t give them enough attention. So here, let’s point them out.
Alert: Little bits of spoilers.
The first thing we didn’t hype enough in this series was the accuracy of the time travels and events. Gosh! It was really all shades of perfection. I mean, unlike other time travel series where we go to the past once, we literally had to go to the past 3 times in this series. We could see the clear difference in the time depiction from the events to the characterization, and that really ticked the box of accuracy for me. We could clearly tell the difference between the three years that was the setting, which was commendable because it would have made the series less interesting if the settings had confused us. So give up some hype for the accuracy in this series.
Another thing that was accurate and needed more hype in this series was the acting and this is not just about the main leads alone but for every actor and actress that was present in the series, they definitely brought their A-game to the movie set. It’s not new that I am always amazed by how actors in their 30s manage to play the role of teenagers so well, but what we witnessed in this series was extraordinary! Loads of adults characterizing high schoolers so well? (Screams in perfection). Focusing on the two leads, someone tell me why Byeon Woo Seok knew how to die so well? (King of death indeed!) He just knew how to die so perfectly, and it was amazing for me (I knew I was getting a happy ending, so what was there to worry about). Also, did someone count how many times Kim Hye Soon cried in this drama? I didn’t count as well, but I remember telling someone that her tears in that series were enough to set up a water corporation without having to worry about another source of water (LOL).
Of course, no drama is without flaws and no matter the hype, this series had its own too. However, we need to talk about the simplicity of the storyline. The storyline was so simple and captivating at the same time. We had no mystery to unravel or a serial killer with a hidden identity. It was a smooth case of trying to change their fates, and for me, it was rather soothing than the feeling of anxiousness.
However, feel free to tell me in the comments if I felt like that because I binge-watched the series in one go. Did you watch it while it was airing? How did you feel? Let me know in the comments!
