HamkkeChats: The Newbies

Hi Hamkkeclan! Itā€™s so exciting to tell you that we just finished a marathon in the kitchen and the result is this scrumptious dish we are about to give you. On that note, welcome to the Hamkkeā€™s Chat Room!!

In this chat room, we intend to bring together Korean enthusiasts to tell us about their various Korean experiences based on all things Korean! (*Whispers*, you inclusive šŸ˜œ)

Itā€™s the first edition, so letā€™s start with something light, shall we? Today, we bring you three newbie K-Drama watchers who just entered the K-Drama world not quite long ago, so we decided to welcome them šŸ‘.

In this chat room, we have LaQueenšŸ‘ø, Abigael šŸ‘©, and GbemiskyšŸ‘©ā€šŸ¦±, and they will be answering questions we have prepared for them. I canā€™t be the only one whoā€™s so excited to do this!

Letā€™s get right in.

Q: When exactly or approximately did you start watching K-dramas, and based on this answer, would you consider yourself a K-drama newbie, intermediate, or addict?

Laqueen: I started watching K-dramas like 3 to 5 years ago but itā€™s always been on and off and I resumed recently. Iā€™ll say I am still a newbie, not yet a K-Drama freak. Lol. But if it has a great storyline, count me inšŸ«².

Gbemisky: For me, my love for K-dramas started in 2016, but I was not really into it until 2021, so I can probably call myself an addicted newbie, can IšŸ‘€?

Abigael: If I should say precisely, I started watching K-dramas in 2017 and itā€™s been an addictive journey so far. However, compared to some peopleā€™s knowledge and watch list, I am a newbie, but I will call myself an addict in my own wayšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø.

Q: Which drama was your first, and what can you say about it?

Laqueen: I canā€™t say precisely, but my first drama should be ā€˜Jumongā€™ and because itā€™s been so long, I canā€™t say much about it. However, one thing I remember vividly was that I stopped watching it in Season 4. The storyline was becoming too long and confusing for my newbie self and I did not have the patience to continue šŸ˜‚, but I think itā€™s a nice series.

Gbemisky: I canā€™t remember what my first Korean series was because my love for K-dramas was not love at first sight and I have watched several of them but one of my favorites is Crazy Love. I loved the fact that an angry and seemingly wicked boss transformed into Mr LoveršŸ˜.

Abigael: My first Korean series was ā€˜Boy Over Flowers.šŸ’ā€™ The Gun Jun-pyo syndrome had me falling in love! It was so nice that it sealed my love for everything K-DramašŸ˜˜.

Q: How did you become a K-Drama lover?

Laqueen: Am I a K-Drama lover? šŸ˜…šŸ˜…I am not sure, but letā€™s say it's between Yes and No because there was this girl who recently rekindled my love for K-dramas that I find myself watching them in my spare time šŸ˜«.

Gbemisky: Like I said earlier, my love for K-dramas was not love at first sightšŸ«¢, so falling in love with K-drama happened because I was trying to kill boredom by watching a lot of them and then I ended up always wanting more.

Abigael: Loving K-dramas started by watching my first series. I donā€™t think thereā€™s anyone who watched ā€˜Boys Over Flowersā€™ that wonā€™t fall in love with it or love K-dramas generally

(Author: Yeah, right!šŸ¤—)

Q: Do you consider K-dramas time-worthy or time-consumingšŸ™„?

Laqueen: Uhhh, I canā€™t say precisely since naturally, I am the type of person who watches movies to relaxšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø. This means I only watch dramas when I have time. But yeah, I still canā€™t do long series because I rarely have the luxury. So letā€™s say yes and no againšŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø.

Gbemisky: K-dramas? They are both time-worthy and time-consuming šŸ¤§. Time-worthy because of all the fun that comes with it, however, it can be time-consuming when I find myself watching K-dramas when I am supposed to be working or sleeping.

(Author: The One More Episode Syndrome šŸ„“šŸ„“).

Abigael: K-dramas are definitely time-worthy šŸ˜». Although it consumes time and leaves me lazy most of the time, it is always an amazing moment for me whenever I am watching an amazing seriesšŸ‘Š.

Q: Finally, do you have a favorite actor and actress yet? If your answer is yes, who are they and why?

Laqueen: Gosh! I am bad with namesšŸ™ˆ. Iā€™ve never tried to know their names because my teeth fit removešŸ˜‚. But I like the lead actor and actress in ā€˜Business Proposalā€™. Did the same actress feature in Crash Landing on You? šŸ„ŗ

Thereā€™s another actor though, but I canā€™t remember the series he featured in. Also, letā€™s not forget about Vincenzo, please! šŸ˜(Author: Song Joong KišŸ˜’) That guy is so foiinnnneeeeešŸ’ƒ letā€™s not lie. Thereā€™s no other reason I like them aside the fact that they are handsome and look perfect in all of their seriesšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Gbemisky: Yes, I have a favorite actress. The lady in Crazy Love (Krystal JungšŸ˜¼). I love her acting zeal, and I think she was the one in Knight Flower, too. And Vincenzo

(Author: Let me say this in pidgin 'Song Joong Ki don suffer for all of una hand'šŸ˜¹šŸ˜¹)

Abigael: I seriously donā€™t have a particular favorite, I love them all, just feature in a K-Drama as the lead and you are already the love of my life but if I am going to choose precisely, I will go with Song Joong Ki.
