Without asking you, I know you agree with me that 2016 is one year that had the best K-drama lineup, and in this piece, we are throwing it back to 2016 and sharing nostalgic memories of the best K-dramas we watched in 2016.
However, before we get into it, give it up for that year for bringing us some of the best K-dramas that ever existed. (Am I the only one who thinks 2024 is following in its footsteps? Well, that's a story for the end of the year).
Back to business, hereās a list of the best dramas we had in 2016, some of which shaped our love for all things Korean.
2016 had a great lineup of K-dramas that made us laugh and the ones that made us cry, and this series is part of the ones that made us cry. Scarlet Heart Ryeo was a sageuk that used the time-traveling theme. I especially love the casts, and of course, they delivered. Although it had what I will call an unsatisfying ending, it was a masterpiece that deserved the hype it got.
Love in the Moonlight is another sageuk we saw in 2016 that captured our hearts. Here, the gender-bending theme was adopted, and it made the series even more interesting and captivating. The series tells the story of a prince who unknowingly fell in love with his eunuch, who was a lady disguised as a man, and yes, it was a happy ending we all wanted.
I will not talk about my favorites on this list, however, this series is one K-Drama that has kept my love for the Hallyu wave so far. The two-way romance storyline and the comic relief in this series worked together so well that it pained us to see the end of the series while it was airing. Letās talk of the ābromance goalsā we were served. It was just the perfect cup of Ramen we wanted!Ā Ā
Not me writing this piece a few days after Lee Min Ho Oppa did his birthday and got a lot of gifts. Lee Min Ho is just stirring the Hallyu wave the way he wants and, of course, partial thanks to this 2016 series. Legend of the Blue Sea is a master masterpiece abeg.
The supernatural and romance theme, adopted with the amazing acting, is second to none and I can watch this series as many times as possible. What about you?
A 2016 series that took us into the world of comics and back is Two Worlds. The series storyline is definitely unusual, but it's one series that built our love for supernatural beings in K-dramas. The romance and supernatural genre of this series was also topnotch, and although itās not my particular best, itās a series that made 2016 remarkable.
Descendants of the Sun gave us the Song-Song couple in 2016, and that was probably where our love for Kang Ji Won (our Queen of Tears Queen) started. What we had in this series was a perfect storyline, a great setting, and an amazing cast that understood the assignment.
Which of these 2016 dramas was your favorite and which one will you gladly watch again right now?
