Tioluwa is a lover of all things good story telling and adventure, so it's no surprise she's officially hooked to all things Korean. She believes learning and having fun is synonymous and prides herself a K-drama guru. From Korean lifestyle to history, she's all over it like sauce on kimchi.
If there's any generation that is definitely paying attention to their seniors, it's the 4th gen.
If you're looking for goofy humour, seshiness, an aura you just want to swim in and boyfriend material vibes with amazing music, dance and performance talents you would literally pay hundreds and thousands of bills to see, well, you're welcome to the world of K-pop boy groups, 4th gen edition.
However, instead of just talking about random groups and it's members, we'll be speaking about the singular hero that holds this mess of talents and mischievous male energy that has been accumulating for years. I'm talking about the Leaders of the 4th gen male kpop groups.
Let's dive right in
If there's a leader that stands out in a group, then it's definitely Choi Soobin. He is the official leader of Hybe's TXT (Tomorrow X Together) popularly known as BTS' younger brothers and one of the most successful boys groups in K-history.
Soobin was born on December 5, 2000, and is the second oldest in the group. He was the second member to join the TXT quartet in January 2019 and has been swooning the hearts of fans and MOAs all around the world. Apart from being a rapper, vocalist, and one of the four visuals of the group, he also MC's and models. Let's just say the camera has a crush on him like half the world does.
Born Christopher Chahn Bahng but popularly called his stage alias "Bang Chan", he is the leader of the energetic and playful Stray Kids. He was born on October 1997 and is the oldest member of the group, a running gag among StrayKids members as he is usually teased for his age.
Bang Chan is known for his determination, humility, and perseverance. Despite training with members of Twice, Day6, and Got7, he didn't debut until 7 years later with StrayKids in 2018.
However, unlike other groups whose members are chosen by the companies, he personally selected the members of his group and was involved in all pre-debut activities. It was revealed that he created the Straykids Logo. Thanks to his dedication, Stray Kids is one of the most successful groups in K-pop history.
Bang Chan is also a member of 3Racha, the rap and production team of Stray Kids with other members, Changbin and Han. He is also a member of the Korea Music Copyright Association with hundreds of songs to his credit, for both Stray Kids and for other artists.
Next on our list is Yang Jungwon, the leader of Enhypen. Enhypen is a pretty special group as it was formed through the survival show "I-LAND" under Belift Lab, a joint venture between CJ Entertainment and HYBE. It is impressive to say that Jungwon came first according to the global votes results, becoming one of the first members of the group.
Despite being born on February 2004, and being one of the youngest members of the group, Jungwon was chosen as the leader for his impressive talent and mature attitude.
Jungwon is a lead singer, lead dancer, MC, writer, and model you definitely don't want to mess with. He cites Jungkook as his inspiration, and we can only expect great things from our Emperor Leader (nickname given by fans).
P1harmony is a group under FNC Entertainment and is led by the wonderful and incredibly talented Keeho also known as Yoon Ke-ho or Steven Yoon. Ke-ho is a Canadian-Korean artist and the leader of P1harmony. He joined FNC Entertainment in 2017 and trained for 2 years and 9 months before his debut in 2020. Interestingly, his younger brother, Yoon Ye Chan or Timothy Yoon, is part of 82MAJOR, a boy group from Great M Entertainment.
He is a vocalist, dancer, and writer with several albums of P1harmony in his collection. In the fiercely competitive world of K-pop, he has managed to stand as a source of inspiration for the group. His leadership style is fueled by his passion and high energy, which translate well into P1Harmony's intense stage presence.
After coming overall second place in Boy's Planet, we are not surprised that Sung Hanbin took the mantle of leadership. Sung Hanbin is the leader of ZEROBASEONE (ZB1), the boy group formed from the reality competition show "Boys Planet." in 2023.
Before becoming part of this team, he formerly trained under Cube Entertainment. He kicked off his career in high school where he worked as a backup dancer for groups such as WannaOne and BTS making him a great role model for the group, which has already gained a lot of attention since its debut.
After the group debuted in July 2023, Hanbin had to take on the responsibility of leadership of the 9-members boy group, and I don't want to imagine the chaos that follows handling 8 guys. Apart from singing and dancing, he currently hosts Mnet's M-countdown and is the storyteller of the 2024 second season of I-LAND.
Despite being a newly formed group, Hanbin has taken on the role of leadership with great responsibility. He was voted into the role by both his fellow members and fans, showcasing the trust people have in his leadership capabilities.
The new generation of K-pop leaders has had to learn a range of leadership responsibilities, including being nurturing, empathetic, energetic, and motivational. This has given them their unique strengths to guide their groups toward rapid success. Whether through their creative vision, hands-on approach, or sheer charisma, these leaders are not only instrumental to their groups’ success but are also paving the way for the future of K-pop.
It's safe to say that the future of K-pop is in good hands, and we should always cheer for them and give them all our support.
