It is the twelfth and final episode. I am thrilled to finally get my much-anticipated happy ending but equally sad to bid farewell to this amazing series. But we move.
The episode kicks off with another backstory moment because why not add a little more heartbreak before wrapping things up? Ju Yeon overhears the team talking about how Su Jeong’s hard work is constantly downplayed, confirming that he already knew about the US job offer. Secretary Kwon gives a situation report before we pick up from the close of episode eleven. Ju Yeon tells Su Jeong she can leave the company if she wants, even as soon as the next day. She is confused, then frustrated, because clueless Ju Yeon seems completely unfazed, even when she mentions she might not return to Korea soon. To make things worse, he grants her a few days off to think about it. The audacity. Annoyed, she rants to Ha Jin over the phone. Meanwhile, Ju Yeon, in his usual oblivious fashion, texts Su Jeong, asking her out on a date. She declines, brutally.
Ju Yeon then meets Shin Won at his office, calling him out on his change in attitude. He does not just express concern but warns that he might lose Ha Jin as well. It is a heartfelt moment until Mr. Advisor goes back to his own office, only to realize that his own girlfriend is ignoring him. She is calling everyone else on the team except him. Naturally, he panics and ends up threatening the poor team member he made shred papers when they tease him about his predicament. It is like watching a man slowly lose his mind in real time. Over at Su Jeong’s place, she is on a mission. She orders her younger brother to take all of Ju Yeon’s things out of the attic. Meanwhile, Secretary Kwon walks into Ju Yeon’s office, only to be met with full-blown panic mode. Ju Yeon finally confesses his mess of a situation, and the ever-wise yet unexpected relationship expert, Secretary Kwon, points out his biggest mistake, which is acting like he does not care. Ju Yeon insists he was going to follow her to the US, and that is his intention. Kwon advises him to meet her in person and explain things properly. He rushes over to her place, only to find out she is at his instead. Without missing a beat, he dashes home, immediately engulfing her in a hug. He tries to explain, but it turns out she already figured everything out and was just angry at first. To his surprise, she came over to make up, setting up his gaming and cartoon collection in the living room and even preparing a meal inspired by his favorite cartoon. He is over the moon, taking a bite with enthusiasm until his face betrays him. His mouth says delicious, but his expression screams disaster. Unfortunately, Su Jeong does not notice right away, proudly announcing her decision to stay at the company. She always wanted people to acknowledge her, and now that she has those who truly trust her, strangers’ opinions no longer matter. Then, she takes a bite of her own cooking and realizes the tragic truth.
Later, in Ju Yeon’s game room, Su Jeong attempts to find interest in his hobbies but quickly dozes off. Meanwhile, at the bar, Ha Jin’s phone is hooked to the speaker when a drunken Shin Won calls. She picks up, and everyone can hear their conversation. The moment she realizes, she scrambles to disconnect the call but only succeeds in dropping her phone under the kitchen counter, giving the entire audience free entertainment and even a chance to record Shin Won’s dramatic drunken confession. The next morning, he wakes up thinking it was all a dream until Ha Jin’s message reminds him otherwise, sending him into a fit of laughter. Su Jeong heads out with her family and calls Ju Yeon, letting him know they are visiting her mother’s resting place. At the funeral home, her father finally tells her to stop worrying about them. He even insists that she stop giving pocket money since he can now provide for the family himself. Her younger brother agrees. As they are leaving, they run into Ju Yeon holding flowers. It turns out his parents are buried in the same place, leading to a heartfelt visit together. It is touching, really. Who knew fate had a VIP membership in their lives? Elsewhere, Secretary Kwon meets with the chairwoman for an emotional conversation about Ju Yeon. The chairwoman claims that love weakens him, but Kwon counters. She reminds the chairwoman that love made Ju Yeon endure so much for her approval and also made him choose Su Jeong over his desires. The realization finally hits. Meanwhile, Shin Won is forced to admit to his team that, yes, that embarrassing viral recording is indeed his voice, before finally making up with Ha Jin. Ju Yeon returns home to a surprising moment, his grandmother apologizing for the way she treated him. A touching reunion follows.
Ju Yeon then cancels the contract with Su Jeong about keeping his secret and even joins the team for a celebratory dinner, which escalates into a chaotic karaoke session. Ju Yeon sings with enthusiasm, but when Su Jeong cancels a song, assuming it was meant for him, he throws a full drunken tantrum. She pacifies him with a chocolate drink and a peck before he dozes off. Curiously, she stumbles upon his recorded voice memos on his watch and leaves one for him as well. The next morning, he wakes up to a message telling him to listen to it, and the second he does, he blushes so hard he might just combust. Su Jeong makes another attempt to find a hobby but gives up in frustration. Ju Yeon suggests she just stop trying. Later, the four lovebirds go on a camping trip, enjoying some well-earned relaxation. While Ju Yeon and Su Jeong get competitive over a game, Shin Won and Ha Jin, bored out of their minds, run off. Shin Won takes the moment to reassure Ha Jin of his love, making for a sweet and romantic scene.
Back at the office, Shin Won hands Ju Yeon a resignation letter out of nowhere. He is leaving to become Ha Jin’s business partner now that the bar is booming. Meanwhile, at the annual shareholder meeting, Su Jeong arrives with her father, all dressed up, catching Ju Yeon off guard. Turns out, her father has been buying shares with his spare money. When they meet the chairwoman, he is just about to bring up Su Jeong and Ju Yeon’s relationship when she casually responds, implying her approval. She even apologizes to Su Jeong, but firmly states that she will still be judged based on her work performance. Of course, the hardworking Su Jeong is more than up for the challenge. At the same event, Ju Yeon is officially announced as a board member, making him the rightful successor. Su Jeong and Ju Yeon later match outfits, rocking a band-style look at a concert where Ju Yeon’s favorite band is performing. It is all fun and memories as Ju Yeon enthusiastically confesses his love once again. As they leave, Su Jeong decides to stop searching for a hobby, realizing she is already enjoying the moments that matter. They make a spontaneous stop at a photo booth, capturing their happiness in snapshots.
At the office, Su Jeong is promoted to section chief. There is celebration everywhere. A jealous staff member dares to speak ill of her, but the usually harsh Sunbeanim shuts it down instantly. Su Jeong then walks in and finishes the job herself, proving that the director killer never truly dies. The moment turns unexpectedly heartfelt when Sunbeanim apologizes, and as the elevator doors open, Secretary Kwon steps out, congratulating her on her promotion. Ha Jin celebrates with Su Jeong with a bowl of spicy ramyeon at the bar, talking about how lucky they are to have each other. Meanwhile, Su Jeong’s younger brother excitedly announces that he has landed a job. On a walking date, Su Jeong and Ju Yeon come across a teenage couple in a scene eerily similar to their own past, sparking nostalgia. Ju Yeon surprises her with a diamond necklace, which she gladly accepts. A series of closing scenes show everyone in a blissful, well-deserved happy ending.
Who doesn't love an epilogue? Ju Yeon and Su Jeong meet under an umbrella on the street, the classic K-Drama touch. Su Jeong delivers a heartfelt speech about their journey being fate, and with that, we say goodbye to MY DEAREST NEMESIS.
Now, does anyone know a good flower plug? Because the scriptwriters deserve a bouquet for this masterpiece. No wasted scenes, no unnecessary episodes, just a perfectly executed twelve-episode drama. This was truly a worthy watch!
