Drama Recap || My Dearest Nemesis - Episode 5

It’s a new week! Who else is as curious as I am to see if we finally get our secret revealed? Let’s dive in.

Recap

We pick up where we left off, where Ju Yeon and Su Jeong are walking toward Ha Jin’s bar. Although Ju Yeon hints that he might know the place, Su Jeong counters him, saying he probably doesn’t. He then goes on a playful rant about his high standards but ends up kneeling to fix her shoelace in a swoon-worthy moment. However, the moment is cut short when Ha Jin calls Su Jeong to warn her not to come because Black Dragon is there, though Ha Jin herself seems puzzled by the situation.

Su Jeong’s immediate reaction is to grab Ju Yeon by the wrist and run, taking him to a secluded corner. When he asks why they’re running, she is about to say "Black Dragon" but quickly changes her explanation, claiming it’s someone she has a dark history with, a video game scammer she can't face (oh, the irony!). Ju Yeon suggests they go back and confront him, but Su Jeong unconsciously ends up pinning him against the wall. When she finally admits it’s her "first love," Ju Yeon coolly responds that he can relate. Realizing their awkward position, they step back, and Ju Yeon asks if she knows what he looks like. It dawns on her that she might not be able to recognize him at all.

Ju Yeon and Su Jeong

Meanwhile, at the bar, Ha Jin pieces things together and realizes that Ju Yeon (aka Black Dragon) is actually Su Jeong’s director. Since their original plan is foiled, Ju Yeon and Su Jeong head home. At the bus stop, Su Jeong bids him farewell, expecting him to leave, but he stays behind, waiting for her bus to arrive. While they wait, they steal glances at each other, and Su Jeong breaks the silence by giving him a stuffed doll she won at the arcade. Though visibly touched, Ju Yeon covers up his emotions, claiming she got the name wrong but still grabs the doll.

Back at the office, the team conducts a store survey, and Su Jeong seems to be the only one on Ju Yeon’s good side. He sternly warns the team not to disappoint him again. The sunbae who used to bully Su Jeong gives her a loaded look, giving the vibes of another workplace drama. Later, Su Jeong meets Ha Jin for lunch, pressing her for answers about why Black Dragon still visits her bar. Ha Jin is flustered and evasive. She asks Su Jeong how she suddenly got close to Ju Yeon despite always badmouthing him. Su Jeong admits she realized he wasn’t so bad. Ha Jin then asks what she would do if Black Dragon turned out to be a decent person, like the director. Su Jeong dismisses the idea outright. However, their conversation is interrupted by a call from Ju Yeon. Though the topic is work-related, Su Jeong speaks in an unusually sweet tone, surprising Ha Jin. In her hurry to leave, she forgets her bag.

At the office lobby, Ju Yeon and Shin Won walk toward the elevator. Shin Won playfully tries to hold Ju Yeon, but Ju Yeon quickly puts him in his place. Ha Jin, there to return Su Jeong’s bag, panics upon spotting them. Since Ju Yeon walks ahead, Ha Jin pulls Shin Won aside and urgently asks him how close he is to Ju Yeon and if he knows about his first love. Shin Won confirms that Ju Yeon considers his first love a "loathsome curse." A flashback shows a young, carefree Ju Yeon choosing the name Black Dragon at an arcade, visiting Shin Won during his military service, and planning to confess to "Strawberry" (Su Jeong). However, after being rejected, Ju Yeon transforms into the rigid, perfectionist successor he is today. Back in the present, Shin Won and Ha Jin joke about whether Ju Yeon and Su Jeong should ever meet again, until Ha Jin drops a bomb: they already see each other every day.

Later that night, Ju Yeon and Su Jeong simultaneously look at the stuffed dolls they gave each other, smiling. Ju Yeon even adds this to his secret gaming room collection. Meanwhile, Ha Jin and Shin Won strategize to "tear them apart."

The next day at work, Ju Yeon and Shin Won enter an elevator just as Su Jeong approaches. Ju Yeon instinctively moves to hold the door, but Shin Won quickly presses the close button. Ju Yeon questions him, and Shin Won, in an attempt to sabotage Su Jeong, claims she’s interested in a colleague. Ju Yeon immediately assumes it's him and, rather than being displeased, starts blushing. He later overhears his team gossiping about Su Jeong possibly liking Shin Won, causing him to dramatically return to demand details, only to cover up by pretending to fix a team member’s button (jealousy alert!).

My Dearest Nemesis-Ju Yeon

Su Jeong meets Shin Won, and after an awkward exchange, bluntly asks if he’s interested in her. Just as things get interesting, Ju Yeon arrives outside the cafe. Seeing them together, he assumes the worst since Su Jeong seems to be blushing from his point of view and leaves, convincing himself she’s not interested in him. Inside, Shin Won admits he’d be lying if he said no but clarifies it’s not romantic. Su Jeong confronts him about digging into her past and warns him to back off before storming out.

Ju Yeon, unable to shake the image of them together, sees it even in his comics. Frustrated, he shows up at Su Jeong’s house and suggests a late-night snack run. At the cafe, he gives her a comic book and cryptically warns her not to fall for another scammer. When she asks what he means, he mistakenly assumes she likes Shin Won and tells her not to. Su Jeong laughs, clears up the misunderstanding, and explains Shin Won’s real intentions. Ju Yeon, visibly relieved, quickly covers up by eating.

As he drops her back home, Su Jeong asks what he would do if she was actually interested in Shin Won. Ju Yeon’s darkly states he'll stop her until she loses interest. She presses further, asking if he’s saying that as her director. But then, in a low, husky voice, he says he doesn’t just like it. The tension thickens, the K-Drama stare kicks in, and just as it seems he might confess, a car horn blares, shattering the moment. Ju Yeon realizes he's blocking the way with his car and quickly drives off, leaving Su Jeong staring after him. Back inside the house, her brother picks up the comic book Ju Yeon gave her, jokingly asking if the store has started selling comic books. Their father chimes in, cutting straight to the point, what exactly is going on between Su Jeong and Ju Yeon? He lists all the nice things Ju Yeon has done for them, including paying his hospital bill, and asks the million-dollar question: is Ju Yeon interested in Su Jeong? Before she can answer, her brother bursts out laughing, dismissing the idea entirely. "Who would like someone like Su Jeong?" he teases. The two bicker, with Su Jeong attempting to pummel her brother before she finally snatches up her comic book and storms out.

Cut to the general team meeting, where Secretary Kwon and the troublesome Sunbaenim are discussing a brand collaboration. Sunbaenim explains why the partnership isn’t working out, but Su Jeong interrupts, suggesting they stick with the original brand. Sunbaenim snaps at her, pointing out that the brand doesn’t want to work with them, unless, of course, she thinks she can change their minds. After the meeting, Secretary Kwon notices Su Jeong on her phone. Curious, she asks if she’s reaching out to the brand herself. Su Jeong confirms that since the next day is the weekend, it wouldn’t hurt to try. Secretary Kwon seems intrigued by her initiative.

My Dearest Nemesis-Secretary Kwon

Meanwhile, Ju Yeon is enjoying a round of golf with some colleagues when Secretary Kwon arrives. As they discuss business, she casually drops a bombshell: Su Jeong is planning to win over the brand that the business team previously rejected. Cut to Su Jeong, now on a mission. She hops on bus after bus, determined to reach her destination. And honestly? It wouldn’t be surprising if Ju Yeon shows up.

Sure enough, Su Jeong arrives at her destination and meets an elderly woman, whom she helps with her bag. They strike up a conversation, and just as she’s making progress, a flashback reveals the elderly woman is actually the CEO of the brand. Su Jeong had researched her beforehand and the CEO who already caught onto her act mentions she’s wary of "greedy chaebol" exploiting small businesses. Just as Su Jeong is about to counter her concerns, Ju Yeon arrives in his exotic car, dressed in his finest suit. The worst possible timing. Before Ju Yeon can introduce himself, Su Jeong jumps in, improvising on the spot and says Ju Yeon is her younger brother, a humble driver sponsored by her company. She playfully drags the CEO to the car, loads her luggage, and orders Ju Yeon to drive them. His stunned expression is priceless. As they walk around the farm, Ju Yeon asks why she lied about him being her younger brother. Su Jeong explains that the CEO dislikes flashy, arrogant businessmen. When she asks why he’s even there, Ju Yeon says he came to help. Su Jeong misinterprets it as him thinking she can’t do it alone. Ju Yeon quickly clarifies, saying he knows she’s capable, but working alone is lonely. Their eyes meet for a long, charged moment again. Ju Yeon then presses her, asking why she introduces him as her younger brother? Su Jeong awkwardly says that calling him a "friend" would be weird, and "boyfriend" would be even worse. Ju Yeon counters that a boyfriend can be younger. Flustered, Su Jeong brushes him off and refocuses on finding the CEO. They try various tactics to impress the CEO, but nothing works. Exhausted, they take a break, and Ju Yeon suggests they give up, pointing out how ridiculous they look.

But Su Jeong, ever determined, wants to try one last time, and Ju Yeon agrees. Their last-ditch effort leads them to the cow house, where the CEO is tending to cows. In a moment of distraction, Su Jeong slips, and as Ju Yeon tries to help her, they both fall right into a bowl of cow dung. The scene is comedy gold, with both of them sitting in cow dung, looking utterly horrified. Meanwhile, Shin Won visits Ha Jin’s bar under the pretense of discussing Su Jeong and Ju Yeon, but his real motive is clear. Ha Jin, unimpressed, tells him she’s on her way to the market and invites him to talk while they walk. However, Shin Won spends most of the conversation talking about himself and Ha Jin rather than Su Jeong and Ju Yeon. Ha Jin, picking up on his intentions, casually remarks that it’s the weekend and he must have other people to meet. But it’s obvious he just wants to spend time with her.

My Dearest Nemesis-Ju Yeon and Su Jeong

Back at the farm, Su Jeong and Ju Yeon, now fresh and clean, sit down for a meal with the CEO. They continue their charade of being siblings, but Ju Yeon struggles to keep up. As they eat, the two engage in a petty food battle, sneaking unappetizing side dishes onto each other’s plates. The CEO, oblivious, steps away to take a call, and the conversation shifts to her son. Ju Yeon, unexpectedly emotional, speaks about how loved the CEO’s son must be, clearly projecting his own unresolved feelings about his family. The atmosphere grows heavy, but the tension is soon broken as their petty food battle resumes. Later, Su Jeong grabs a drink from the freezer and, hoping to impress the CEO, pretends to be interested in makgeolli. She hands Ju Yeon a cup, expecting him to play along, but he immediately ruins her act by bluntly stating that it's just ordinary makgeolli. They bicker playfully, Ju Yeon constantly teasing her with "noona," much to her irritation. As night falls, the CEO offers them a place to stay overnight. Awkward exchanges ensue. Sitting outside, Su Jeong tells Ju Yeon to think of their trip as a vacation. She reflects on how she hasn’t had one all year due to work. Ju Yeon asks why she works so hard, and Su Jeong shares a childhood memory where she was always told what she couldn’t do because she was a girl. These experiences fueled her determination to prove herself. Ju Yeon listens intently, and they realize they share a desire for acknowledgment and success. Their conversation becomes more personal, even touching on their first loves. They clink their cups together in a toast, laughter mixing with unspoken emotions.

My Dearest Nemesis-Ju Yeon and Su Jeong

Just as things turn romantic, Su Jeong’s phone rings. It’s Ha Jin. Stepping away, Su Jeong tells Ha Jin she’s on a business trip with "the director." Ha Jin’s response isn’t audible, but Su Jeong’s reply reveals Ha Jin is teasing her. Su Jeong downplays it, saying the director is like a younger brother. Ju Yeon overhears and looks visibly hurt, feeling belittled. When she returns, he surprises her by holding her hand and asking why she keeps looking down on him. Then, in a shocking move, Ju Yeon pulls her in for a kiss. Su Jeong is taken aback, but the kiss deepens. As they pull away, Ju Yeon asks, "Do you still not see me as a man?" The episode ends with them sharing another kiss, leaving viewers desperate for what comes next.

For the next episode, I expect this kiss to either deepen their connection or lead to awkward avoidance. But one thing’s for sure, we’re approaching the climax, and I can’t wait for the big reveal. See you in the next episode!
