The ink drips smartly over here. Let me take you through the world of my imagination while riding on the letters😎 It's all fun in this corner.
This is a drama about No Ki Jun (Lee Dong Wook), who works on a product development team at an insurance company. He’s a smart and qualified guy, but with three divorce histories, he's a strong advocate for divorce. He sets up a divorce insurance team with Kang Han-Deul (Lee Joon Bin), an underwriter whose job is to review insurance contracts. She has believed in patience for a long time, but after her divorce, she decides to live differently. This drama will be full of a love triangle mixed with comedy and trying times for their team, with Ki Jun’s ex-wife coming on board as his superior.
We open to the celebration of the 12th annual Best Wedding Fair, where intending couples look around to get wedding packages from several wedding agencies. The party is going well until our lead actor, Noh Ki Jun, decides to ruin it by announcing that he prepares divorce contracts on stage. What a party popper!
He doesn't stop there; he tells them to patronize Plus General Insurance in case they get an unplanned divorce. Two of the employees end up messing up the order and wrongly line up to spell “Vorced-Di” instead of “Divorce.” Giving us the hint that we will be met with a company filled with clumsy people already? Of course, his announcement causes an uproar, but where else would it be best to sell divorce insurance if not among couples? We need to give his marketing strategy a thumbs up! He even offers free divorce ceremonies for the first ten applicants as he is being stoned out; oh my goodness!
Ki Jun and An Jeon Man are bickering when they get their first client. Surprisingly, she was the one with the loudest criticizing voice back in the fair. What an irony! Ki Jun ends up convincing her that the end result of both marriage and divorce is happiness.
We're taken to 3 months before where it all began.
Our favorite Ajhussi is back, and of course, with a dramatic entrance, as he screams life out of Ki Jun for always coming up with failing products and strategies. He got a revelation of divorce insurance from a god of insurance who is their CEO, only for him to wake up and discover that was all a dream. Urgh!
Ki Jun's boss, Dae Bok, gets divorce threats from his wife while in the office, and his imagination runs wild into her preparing the last curry dish for him while dropping a divorce letter. Ki Jun rushes in and advises him to divorce because he has a great plan to share.
Our female lead, Han Deul, goes shopping and is about to pay before she realizes that she has bought everything on reflex. As someone in a divorce process, she doesn't need to buy all those household items anymore, so she returns all of them and ends up with only a ball of knitting wool. Whatever her backstory is, we will surely get to know it as the episodes roll by.
Ki Jun finally gets the chance to present his divorce insurance plan in reality, where he is tackled seriously by Jeon Man. He ends up bullying his boss into assembling a task force for his project, which the latter obliges because of the pressure of his ongoing divorce. The 'frenemy-ship' between Ki Jun and Jeon Man blooms further as he tries to make Jeon Man see the value of the project by all means, but he is not ready to listen to it or talk it out. This scene reveals that Ki Jun has gotten a divorce three times while Jeon Man has gotten one once, making them the best fit for the project. His solid reason for the repeated divorces is that he cannot do one-night stands.
Han Deul finally gets her divorce, and we get to realize that her husband really deserves it because who throws a fit over a bidet’s missing screw after clearing the entire house because of a divorce? Who talks down on their spouse after giving them a house under debt as alimony? The house was put up as collateral for a loan he used to open his café, and he also borrowed some money from his mom. He tells her that taking back their words runs in the family because they told him to pay back whenever he had the money when he was borrowing the loan. A piece of rotten kimchi jar, innit?
The next day, Jeon Man drags Ki Jun out to make him buy tenderloins as a bribe to join the project while adding that he needs to know his divorce backstory before he can fully join in. Ki Jun reveals that his first wife didn’t have the same view on marriage as him because she wanted an open marriage, which makes Jeon Man choke on his drink—well, I did, too.
Ki Jun turns the table around and asks the same question, but Jeon Man refuses to disclose his reason for divorce, giving the excuse that he doesn’t have to since he’s not buying divorce insurance. Ki Jun ends up throwing in the best friend card, which makes him reveal that his wife is an interior design fanatic who suddenly tells him his appearance is ruining the interior design of the house. What a creative divorce excuse. Ki Jun picks on him for always running away instead of fighting back, but he gets poked in the eyes for paying alimony three times, even though he’s a smart guy. Serves him right.
Han Deul goes camping, where she knits with the yarn she got earlier before Ah Young runs over to keep her company. Ah Young also works in the same company with Ki Jun and declares she's getting a sologamy because she has no intention of getting married but wants to get back all the wedding money she's donated to people; she's a loss adjuster for a reason, hehe. Han Deul jokes that maybe she aims because she's an underwriter since they deal with analyzing and evaluating the risk involved in insurance.
Ah Young curses Han Deul's ex-husband for cheating and also taking the bidet with him, but Han Deul claims it's fine only to get smacked with that's why she takes losses, ouch! Ah Young advises her to change her nice image to a smiley nutcase since she's changing jobs to her company so no one messes with her.
Finally, our leads have their dramatic meeting with Han Deul carrying a huge bed on her back in the middle of the street without seeing where she is going and ending up colliding with a drunk Ki Jun. In an attempt to hold the bed with her back, she falls backwards, and Ki Jun, who extends a hand of support, also falls on her on the bed. Oh oh! Public erotica? As if that isn’t enough, a neighbor drops a blanket from her balcony to cover them on the bed, causing a more intense sight.
They try to get the blanket off, but it only gets weirder, which makes the witnesses film the scene and drag them to the police, where they try to explain themselves, but the evidence is against them. Han Deul’s side of the story adds salt to injury as she claims Ki Jun popped out of nowhere, drunk, and jumped on her. The police officer suggests that their insurance covers the injuries they both claimed they sustained, which leads to another bickering about whether insurance covers it. Tada! Our leads are both well-versed in insurance policies.
Ki Jun nitpicks the officer’s words and corrects him about his choice of words, just like Han Deul did with her ex-husband earlier. Another weird thing in common for our leads. He then realizes that they both met at the store before their current encounter, where she was trying to get items indecisively. They end up making peace with each other and leaving the police station together, agreeing to part ways forever. Plot twist? They live in the same direction!
The recruitment notice for the divorce insurance group has been sent out, and our favorite ajhussi, Na Dae Bok, is still not totally buying the idea. He thinks they are being set up for failure, given the kind of high-standard office that was assigned to them. Surprisingly, they get a lot of applicants for the team. Our leads’ paths cross once again, this time as an interviewer and interviewee.
Han Deul is the last applicant to be interviewed and appears in an outfit that shows she took Ah Young's advice of being a smiley nutcase. He compliments her outfit, and they end up discussing their views on divorce and insurance. Then, he hires her on the spot.
Dae Bok runs in to notify him that the vice president is joining the team because the CEO’s daughter is getting a divorce, so they need the divorce insurance to be implemented as soon as possible. The scenario is getting bigger than what Ki Jun pictured, with different people getting pulled into the team and the attention it’s getting.
Finally, the divorce insurance team is complete with our two leads on board: Ki Joon’s best friend, Jeon Man; Ah Young, who countered the proposal by not being affected because she doesn’t plan to get married and is also Han Deul's friend, the vice president, who is yet to be revealed; and Dae Bok ajhussi.
Finally, we get the dramatic entrance of the vice president, Jeon Na Rae, at the elevator, looking all chic and sophisticated. Looks like we are in for a workaholic boss because her introduction was a list of things they need to get done. And yes, we get to hear the biggest shock of our lives. She’s Ki Joon’s ex-wife! What a powerful reunion.
Ki Joon throws himself further under the bus and clarifies that she’s actually his ex-ex-ex-wife. If dramatic and nitpicky were a person. The shock on the faces of everyone as they realize that they are in a deeper mess and entanglement than they can imagine as the episode draws to a close.
The next episode promises a clash of intelligence between members and a tense environment due to the presence of an ex-ex-ex-wife who is now a senior to Ki Jun and wants him back. Ki Jun and Han Deul are getting closer, and the pressure for approval is rising higher.
This episode is slow, with a lot going on in the first half. The introduction of the female lead gave an almost non-existent character, and she seems too dumb for someone who works as an underwriter. Her goal is not clear yet, and she is pushed around because of her recent divorce. Now that the team has gotten together, I am hoping to see more of her character and understand her a bit better.
However, the drama is kicking off with a dramatic start, promising a worthy watch with the cast and other situations surrounding them. Will Ki Jun be able to give love or marriage another chance? How will Han Deul pay all the debts and navigate life? Na Rae is back to claim Ki Jun once again; will they have the same view on marriage this time? Hopefully, we will get answers to these questions very soon.
