Drama Recap || The Divorce Insurance - Episode 2

Recap

Personally, I love the intense and petty rivalry that episode two opens with. We cannot expect them to be cool and chic after the divorce and years spent apart.

The episode opens with the teammates sitting closer to Ki Jun at the far end of the table while Na Rae sits alone at the other end. Piercing stares are exchanged by them until Dae Bok comes in to sit with Na Rae, wondering what is going on with their seating arrangements. Afraid of getting on the bad side of the vice president, he mouths to Ki Jun that he should move closer with others while buttering Na Rae up. It’s quite understandable; his livelihood depends on the success of the team, after all.

Divorce Insurance ep 2 team meeting

As expected, the meeting is filled with bickering between Ki Jun, who wants the major premises to be implemented first, and Na Rae, who wants the insurance data collated first. The teammates are thrown in the middle as their opinions don’t matter in the affairs of the two exes. Dae Bok, who is tired of their tantrums, suggests they use both methods so they can move forward. His point is being considered, but he releases a rotten fart that ruins the mood entirely. Na Rae maintains her chic style and continues the meeting. Still, the smell becomes unbearable, making her run away from her seat entirely. I mean, why would you even try to maintain composure in the first place? The meeting ends with the team being split into two to cover both aspects suggested.

Na Rae tells Ki Jun to finish the project quickly if he wants her out of his hair, and he promises to do so as fast as possible. She asks if she makes him uncomfortable. Ma’am? Who wouldn’t be? He responds with a no because a lot of time has passed, and she tries to mask her pain with “It’s a relief.” Vice President-nim, blink twice if you need pain relief!

Divorce Insurance ep 2 Jeon Na Rae and Ki Jun

Our leads get their moments again as they leave the office to carry out their tasks. Ki Jun brags about his car, which is also suitable for camping, and she tells him to save it for later. She suggests they start their finding by conducting a group focus interview for divorce-related people.

Jeon Man and Na Rae, on the other hand, are not in sync. He doesn’t buy the idea of her presence and doesn’t give two hoots about her position. Our leads decide to have a meal first before anything and run into Han Deul’s ex-husband at the park. He had rushed into the space Ki Jun was to park in. Han Deul throws her face away in pretense while Ki Jun suggests they play rock-paper-scissors, and the winner takes the parking space. And yes, he won! Hwaiting boy!

Han Deul’s mood changes, and Ki Jun thinks it’s because he has chosen the restaurant. He tells her to let him know what she likes or dislikes the next time. She opens up that the man at the park is her ex-husband, and he asks if she can be the smiley nutcase she claims to be in this state. She strikes back that she placed a bet on him to win the game with her ex-husband a few moments ago, and she would have killed him if he had lost to show him she’s really a nutcase.

Jeon Man takes Na Rae to a gaming Café for data collection, and she tells him to place an instant noodles order for her. His reaction tells her that he doesn’t care about her rank, so she should order herself, but she negotiates to be the one ordering next time. I don’t know if there will be one, though. Is it just me, or are we all seeing the tension building between them? Hehe

Ki Jun suggests they have a coffee after the meal, and Han Deul protests that they should start working. He argues that he knows a quiet place with good coffee as he takes her to a temple where we get to see Jo Bo Ah as a nun! What a surprising cameo from our dear military prosecutor.

Oh my! Another plot twist: she’s Ki-Jun’s ex-wife. Han Deul throws up her coffee at this revelation. He tells her she’s the wisest person he knows, so Han Deul should ask her some questions concerning the justification of divorce insurance while giving them some privacy. She opens up about having a different view of life from society, and that is why she decided to get divorced and become a nun in the temple.

Joh Ah Young, the loss adjuster on the team who doesn’t believe in marriage, goes to a shop to get a sologamy wedding kit consisting of a consent form, wedding ring, and a declaration of non-marriage. Still, the owner refuses to sell because her reaction gives out that she’s just not ready for marriage with a man, and not that she doesn’t believe in it.

Jeon Man and Na Rae deepen their conversations by asking about their divorce stories, while Ki Jun and Han Deul decide to follow Jo Bo Ah’s recommendation of watching the shooting stars instead of going home. Thanks to Ki Jun’s camping car, a campsite is set up, and they share their views while waiting for the moment. They describe marriage as a tunnel that you have to go in before you can come out. Right after his statement, the shooting star display starts, and they lie down on the car to watch it properly and closely. He jokes that they seem to lie down quite often. Bro, you just took the words out of my mouth!

Na Rae and Han Deul meet at the cinema after a late-night movie and go shopping together for knitting wool. Na Rae picks up a green yarn and claims the person she wants to knit for likes green color. This triggers Han Deul’s memory of Ki Jun telling her green is his favorite color. What an obvious dot connection, or is it a coincidence for now? They both compare love to knitting, which can be undone and started over if one makes a mistake. Na Rae reveals if she could knit another life, she would choose Ki Jun again.

The team is working hard toward the product launch, and this time, the seating arrangement has improved a lot. Each team is doing their best to contribute to the project so they can get approval. Na Rae suggests they have a team dinner. They move to a bowling center to decide who pays, and Han Deul voices her inability to play the game. Ki Jun volunteers to teach her. Na Rae becomes jealous and moves closer, only for us to discover she doesn’t know how to play, either. Acting all cool and saying it’s for pleasure in the first place for what?

Han Deul makes a strike on her first attempt, and everyone cheers at how good she is. This puts pressure on Na Rae, who is on the other team, as she prepares for her own turn. All three members of Ki Jun hit a strike in the first round, but Han Deul missed some pins in the second round, making Na Rae smirk.

The competition becomes intense as Han Deul and Na Rae throw their balls at the same time to decide the fate of their teams. The game ends in an expected but unexpected twist as Han Deul’s team won even though her ball didn’t strike any of the pins. The rest of the evening ends with them at a noraebang, where they sing their stresses away before going on.

Dae Bok presents their product for approval, and it gets a conditional approval after passing the technical review. They have to sell thirty policies in three days, and the divorce rate during the six-month contract term must be zero percent. It looks like they are in for a serious task with the impossible conditions in which they are being placed.

The team goes all out to have the conditions met, and this brings us back to the wedding fair scene. Ouch! It wasn’t a dream, as they painted it to be in the first episode. Surprisingly, they got more clients than they expected, and they were dramatic ones at that. Two mothers-in-law meet at the booth as they try getting divorce insurance for their son and daughter, who happen to be an intending couple? What a fantastic turn.

Wedding FairDivorce Insurance ep 2 Mothers-in-law

The next episode gives us a glimpse of the wedding between the intending couple, situations arising in the team, and Han Deul drawing closer to Ki Jun to the point of getting jealous of his calls. Also, it looks like Ki Jun has a soft spot for her, and they are handling their partnership well.

In my opinion, episode two’s pace is far better than episode one’s. We made all those turns just to arrive at the opening scene of the drama. I like the fact that a lot is going on already, and the love triangle is going on healthily. Hopefully, it doesn’t become toxic along the line. I can’t wait to see how they will meet their approval condition and other things that come next, like Dae Bok getting a divorce or saving his marriage and Jeon Man and Na Rae tolerating each other more. Ah Young’s belief in marriage changing or not. We are in for an interesting ride so far.
