Self-Learn Korean in Nigeria the Easy Way

Growing up as a Nigerian kid, most of us were probably told we were almost done with learning while we were still in high school and we happily believed the elders, we later came to realize that even outside the walls of school, learning never ends because it didn’t start from school initially.

As a Korean enthusiast, it is safe to say Hallyu brought us into another phase of learning because it is a dream for most of us to be able to speak the Korean language fluently and watch Korean content without subtitles one day. That’s why Hamkke is here for you.

Today, we have some pretty useful tips on how to learn Korean from the comfort of your home all by yourself.

  • YouTube Videos
  • YouTube has been a great and helpful tool for everyone. Luckily, there are no topics that have not been covered on YouTube because of the presence of numerous YouTubers and content creators in the world. There are a great number of videos from different creators that help in learning the Korean language from the beginner level to the Superior level. Some of these YouTube channels include:

  • Learn from Dramas or Movies
  • I have come across many people who find it hard to watch foreign movies with subtitles because they can’t multitask reading and watching comfortably. However, as a Korean lover who hasn’t mastered the Korean language, if you can watch K-dramas or movies with subtitles, then you can easily learn by repeating Korean words while watching a drama or movie, and keeping up with what is being said through subtitles.

  • Learn from K-pop
  • Studies have shown that listening to music in a foreign language can make learning more enjoyable and engaging. Apart from listening to K-pop as a fan, listening to it can also help in learning the Korean language especially when a lyrics-displaying app is used.

  • Make a list
  • A close friend of mine once learned the Indian language by making a list of all the basic words and their meanings then went ahead to memorize them. Although the Korean language is hard, making a list of the basic words and learning it daily is a good place to start, especially for a beginner, and it will go a long way in helping to learn.

Knowing a foreign language is a great advantage in Nigeria. Although learning the Korean language is surely hard, and can sometimes be stressful, looking at the brighter side, all the advantages attached to it make it worth the time and energy it requires.

Just like me in the past, if you’ve been putting off your plans to learn the Korean language, take a step to learn now! and you won’t regret it.

As always, let’s #StudyHamkke
