The Divorce Insurance Ep 7 Recap

Recap

Opening with episode 6's ending scene, where Ki Jun asks Han Deul to stay at his place, she agrees, and we get to see the awkwardness as she occupies her new space. Unlike her empty house, she gets a bed that finally feels like home.

Awwww!

Meanwhile, Ki Jun moves to her house, and he tells her to stuff herself with the items in the house while he just opts to order food. He concludes she likes toast after finding only a toaster in the house, while she realizes he doesn't have one despite the numerous food items in his cabinets. Funnily weird!

Finally, we get to see their discussion before the house swap. Actually, they live in the same building, don't have great memories of their spaces, and want to try creating new memories by living in different apartments. At first, Han Deul hesitates but finally admits she's trying to disappear from her apartment, but couldn't without a plan. Ki Jun suggests they do a month of swapping, and she clicks in. On the other hand, Jeon Man sets dinner at the table, and the memories of him eating with Na Rae keep flooding his head.

Han Deul awkwardly sleeps on the bed and rushes up to give uncomfortable Ki Jun a pillow since she doesn't have one at her place. She contemplates calling him as she walks to the elevator with the pillow tightly clutched to her chest. Thankfully, they meet at the elevator where Ki Jun is heading to fetch his charger from the car. He tells them to grab what she needs from her place, too, since she's there, and she agrees. As she tries stepping into the elevator, the door starts closing, and Ki Jun leaps forward to part them immediately, startling her as their eyes contact linger for some seconds.

Ki Jun heads to his apartment to pick up a watch since Han Deul is still in hers, and he doesn't want to make her uncomfortable with his presence. She comes back to find him tiptoeing out of the house and mistakes him for a thief, swinging her bag to beat him several times. He pulls her into a hug before realizing it's him.

Springing apart, he shows the watch on his wrist as the item he came to fetch. Luckily, the watch shows exactly twelve at midnight, so she points out that a new tomorrow has begun, and he corrects her that it's now today, making them chuckle awkwardly, and he tells her to switch on an alternative light since the doorstep's motion sensor is broken. They exchange texts about his head, toaster, and letting each other know if they need something. She ends up deleting the "thank you for holding the elevator earlier" message, and he also wipes off the "sweet dreams" message because it seems too intimate.

His alarm springs her awake the next day with a must-solve question for it to be off. Thankfully, he rings the bell to bring her the toaster, and she happily opens the door for him to solve the question. Taking the alarm tablet from her, he tells her to get dressed so they can go to work together. She thanks him for purposely coming over for the alarm, making him joke that he has to come since he cannot send Jeon Man over.

She hands over a portion of toast and coffee in his favorite mug to him, and he praises her for having a similar taste to his. Stuffing the entire toast in his mouth, he urges her to take her time eating hers and fires the car. Na Rae attacks them for coming to work together, but Ki Jun responds that they will be leaving first. Wondering what's really going on between them aloud, she asks for Jeon Man's opinion, who responds that they might have carpooled to work. He asks how she knew he was the one without looking back, responding that she can recognize his scent, and he bursts into a big smile.

She calls him cute, and he blocks the elevator for her to enter, but more employees rush in and push them to the back, tightly against each other. With more employees trooping into the elevator, she gets pushed, and he covers her with his frame, heightening the tension between them. Oooohhh, Bold Jeon Man!

On the other hand, Han Deul and Ki Jun are experiencing a similar romantic moment in the elevator too. He asks for a little chat as they step out of the elevator, apologizes for putting her on the spot with Na Rae, and asks that they put a name on their relationship. Using a scale of 1 to 5 and "Up and Down," they arrive at friends after skipping neighbors and colleagues. He labels the fourth as a gray zone since they don't have a name for it yet. She volunteers to be "Gray," and Ki Jun picks "Zone."

Back at the office, Dae Bok screams in to announce that someone has filed for an insurance claim. Even though she can’t file for one within 90 days, she’s still putting them in danger because of the zero divorce rate. He chases them out of the office to look for solutions, and they head to the court to look for the couple. The divorced couple bicker affectionately as they descend the court’s stairs, leaving the team hopeless.

Heading back to the office, Dae Bok chases them out once again. Na Rae comes to their rescue that they have four weeks to persuade the couple and calls for a meeting. Ki Jun argues that even though she’s not on the list of high-risk people, her divorce is not impulsive, especially since they are a gray couple.

Thanks to the deliberation about the cause of the sudden divorce, Chang Hee successfully joins the meeting without any of them noticing until he interrupts, and they all fly to the side in horror. Quickly, Dae Bok introduces him properly to the team and tells them he’s Chang Hee. The warmth turns to coldness as they realize he’s the one behind the divorce file. We get to see Won Hee Grandma explaining to him how she fell victim to voice phishing and her husband nagging her continuously about it, even without the loss of money. He tells her to sign the divorce insurance if she wishes to get one, and she willingly does.

Unknown to him, it affects the zero divorce rate but fulfills the required number of registered needed. Chang Hee reveals that the husband is stingy, stubborn, and has been looking down on Grandma for a long time. Still, she also shares in the blame because she makes bad financial decisions.

The ladies team up to meet with Grandma, and things are not looking good with the lecture a neighbor is giving her about her appearance. On the other hand, the men visit Grandpa’s hospital as patients. Grandpa examines Dae Bok and diagnoses him with pent-up anger. He slips in that he recently got a divorce, that’s why he’s so stressed, and Grandpa laughs that it’s the best decision.

Grandpa pushes him on the bed to get acupuncture, and he yaps about how strong Grandpa is. Grandpa attributes the strength to getting a divorce since he doesn’t have to waste his energy on talking; oh no! Grandpa gets a call from Ms. Choi, who agrees to meet up, and Dae Bok quickly puts a call through to Ki Jun and Jeon Man to follow him.

At the other end of town, the ladies are with Grandma in the beauty salon as they chat away. She gets set up with a touching story, and she lends the security deposit for her new house for the neighbor to pay the hospital bills. Grandma rushes home as they press her for the reason she needs a personal apartment, and the ladies run along to meet with her. Meanwhile, in the market, the best friends lose Grandpa as they gush over a cassette player at the treasure hunt section.

The ladies catch up with Grandma, who asks when she will get the insurance claim. They offer marriage support to improve her relationship with Grandpa, but she turns them down. She responds that her husband is still full of energy, so she cannot put up with him anymore. Han Deul gives Grandma her business card and tells her to call anytime she needs help.

Back to devilish Jeong Shin, she requests an update about their divorce insurance launch, and they tell her the risk-related data is insufficient. She promises to gather more so they can launch the divorce insurance before Han Deul’s team.

At the meeting table, both teams tender their reports. Han Deul says Grandma is not ready because she’s financially naïve and still cares deeply for her husband. Na Rae states that they should focus on divorce, Jeon Man agrees, and she sneaks a smile. Ki Jun comes up with a way to prove the husband is having an affair to nullify the contract. It looks cruel to Grandma, who wouldn’t be getting a benefit, but argues the project has to be successful for other people like her to benefit in the future, since it will forever remain a sample and not a product if it doesn’t get launched, sparking tension in the room.

Grandma sees Grandpa driving out of an apartment as she returns from grocery shopping. One of the neighbors reveals that Grandpa bought some hotel-quality blankets a few days ago. Realizing that Grandma doesn’t know about them, she changes her story and runs off.

Back to Jeon Man’s house full of Na Rae’s memories, he has gotten another chair for the table and put the stuffed doll on it. Taking a picture of it, he sends it to Na Rae instead of Ki Jun, and she responds with it's cute, and he almost dies of embarrassment. She sends the picture of the wine she’s having in her office while also remembering the elevator scenario in the morning before rushing into a taxi with the wine bottle in her hand. We also see Jeon Man in a bus heading to God knows where.

At the apartment, Ki Jun stops by, and Han Deul asks what he came to pick. He lies about his watch before saying it’s the alarm clock, which she reminds him of taking earlier in the morning. He eventually apologizes for his statement in the meeting and how he must have disappointed her, but she shakes her head that he is just unfamiliar. He sits her down to explain his reason. He scoffs that Jeon Man calls him a travesty because he’s good at finding loopholes and avoiding things. He confesses about how he couldn’t forget the look on her face, and she reveals how she felt hurt, even though it was work, and wonders what difference it would have made if the words came from other people.

Ki Jun springs up and declares he doesn’t want to stay in the gray zone, closing the gap between them as he glides his hand at the edge of the table before reaching for her shoulder. He leans in to give her a kiss, but we don’t know if it’s successful or not as the curtain falls.

This episode has given us a huge romantic leap for the main leads and supporting actors. I love how they do not hesitate to pursue their feelings. Well, we are deep into the drama, so it’s expected for romance to bloom by now. We can’t wait to see how they handle the entanglement both in their personal lives and at work. Two new couples on the team? Sounds interesting.

In the coming episode, I wish to see the romance in full bloom and more of Jeong Shin's evil acts through her desperation. I love the subtle villainous act, but it can get better. A good watch so far.
