The ink drips smartly over here. Let me take you through the world of my imagination while riding on the letters😎 It's all fun in this corner.
“The King of Action” is not a strange line to any K-drama enthusiast. Only one actor has proven himself to be worthy of that throne over and over; who are we to argue?
Actor Ji Chang Wook is known for his multiple action roles, which he ate without leaving any crumbs, every single time. There has never been a time when he didn’t deliver in his action roles. Fans that have actively followed him from the days of Warrior Baek Dong Soo, Empress Ki, Healer, The K2, Suspicious Partner, and The Worst of Evil to his new drama, Gangnam B-side, will gladly sign off the testament that he’s indeed the King of Action.
Here are some instances where the actor proved himself and broke the scale of perfection:
Fearless Stunts: if it’s not an authentic stunt, then it’s not Ji Chang Wook on your screen. He has always delivered intense actions, moves, and styles through intense training. The actor doesn’t use a stunt double and has always delivered powerful fight scenes that stick with us for a long time, all by himself. While this is not an impossible feat for other actors, he has done this repeatedly by taking action roles multiple times.
Physical Combat: A good fight scene doesn’t end with some jumps and wires. Ji Chang Wook showed the uniqueness of physical combat in Healer and The K2, where he trained to portray a retired soldier turned bodyguard for a powerful woman. There were scenes where fists were exchanged, and he served us the best and most satisfying scenes for real.
Charismatic Presence: He commands the screen, and we will never complain. Whether it’s a scene of rescuing someone, fighting the enemies off, or teaching them a lesson, he leaves us with a charismatic presence that gets us gushing and blushing. Is it his stamina? Strength? Tactics? Or build? We are not sure of which exactly, but they all played a role in serving us a scrumptious scene every single time.
Attention to Detail in Character Development: The versatile actor knows how to embody his character well. He becomes one with the character and brings every small detail to life. When he portrayed Toghon Temur in Empress Ki, who had to go through several emotions and phases of life, he showed his actions through every phase and blended with the character as one, making him deliver excellently and setting the standard high for all the historical dramas out there.
The Drive to Challenge Himself Relentlessly: He will never shy away from tough roles. None of his characters have been the bare minimum. Ji Chang Wook constantly pushes the limit with every new series, which helps him grow as an actor and also seal his legacy in the action genre.
A romantic Hero: Who said heroes cannot enjoy the sweetness of romance? He portrayed a skilled prosecutor in Suspicious Partner, but that didn’t stop him from finding the love of his life. Even the storm of life in Empress Ki didn’t prevent him from being a finished man who was shamelessly in love with Nyang. Blending action with romance is his forte; we are never going to argue that fact.
With these few points, I am sure that you are also signing off on the petition that his throne will never be shaken. All hail the King of Action, our Wookie!
