3 Lessons I Learned From Dear Hongrang (탄금)

Dear Hongrang review and reaction

Lessons

Self love
Forget what you see on social media or the many motivational quotes that you read. The truth of the matter is that we find it difficult to love ourselves. Especially those who grew up with traumas and painful scars. Those people need someone that would comfort them and love them for who they are. They are not greedy for many things; just love. Those with unspeakable past and scars are like children that are stuck in the tunnel of the past and need someone or a group of persons to help them and guide them towards the light.
We cannot comprehend the amount of pain they have to go through but we know that they sometimes need a tight hug, a pat on the back and words that acknowledge the pain that they have been through. Because these warm words can soothe the pain.

This is what happened to Fake Hongrang (Lee Jae Wook's character in the drama) and Shim Jae Yi. They are two individuals that have been hurt and scarred by the people around them and themselves as well. They come from 2 painful background that seems to have dimmed the light in their lives. And to find that tiny light of happiness, they knew that they had to hold each other as tight as they could and embrace the scars they both shared. I know they loved each other with all they had and that was beautiful to watch.

We seek validation from other people.
It might come as a shock but the truth is we want someone to acknowledge even the little struggles that we go through and when that happens, we hold on to that person like our lifeline. I think that is the case for Mu Jin. Jae Yi was the one that gave him validation and embraced him when he was lost and this added to his obsession for Jae Yi. Sometimes, we need someone to help us to love ourselves, to remind us to love ourselves. Like people that come out of a bad relationship and start to work on their physical and mental health. I'm talking about ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends or even ex-wives and ex-husbands.

This teaches me that we need to be mindful of the people around us.

Some people are just plain psychopaths
I don't need to say much about this. Some people, like the Grand Prince, are just plain psychopaths, no two ways about it. How can he do such inhumane things to little children?😡
In my honest opinion, the man deserved Justitia's (Kang Bit Na) judgment from 'Judge from Hell'. Make she catch am and give am x2 or rather x100 of what he did to those children.

Abuse of children
This issue will never end. In the olden times till this modern period. You would think that humans would have stopped any kind or form of abuse on children by now but no, it's still as rampant as ever. No child deserves any form of ill-treatment. What Fake Hongrang and the others went through, I cannot begin to imagine how they were able to live each day.

*Spoiler Alert*

And to think it was the torture he went through as a child that caused him to die at the end makes it even more tragic. The pain, trauma, suffering, and scars that these children endured is so sad to think about. This is why whether in reality or in the fictional world, we all need to consciously fight against, and stopped any and all forms of child abuse.

Rating📺

I would rate this an 8/10. From the beginning, I did not get how it would turn into a love story with the female lead looking for her lost brother and all. But anyways, it turned out well, albeit tragic at the end.
