Drama Recap || My Dearest Nemesis - Episode 7

Will Ju Yeon’s identity be revealed? Does he have to face the wrath of his grandmother for living a double life? Will Su Jeong and Ju Yeon’s romance finally begin? I guess we will never know until we dive into Episode 7.

Recap

The episode starts with a mini backstory of how we arrived at the end of Episode 6. Ju Yeon and her blind date walk into the same shopping mall where she once helped Ju Yeon get the autograph of his favorite band’s lead vocalist. The memory of that day floods her mind. Just as she is about to dismiss her blind date, Ju Yeon calls, uninterested in anything except her location. The moment she gives it to him, he abruptly hangs up. This leads to the scene where he drags Su Jeong into the dressing room. Cut to the duo thrown into a panic as an employee, later joined by Su Jeong’s blind date, tries to open the door. Su Jeong salvages the situation by hiding Ju Yeon in a corner before stepping out to distract them, allowing Ju Yeon to escape (what a relief!). As Su Jeong and her blind date leave the mall, she attempts to dismiss him again, only for Ju Yeon to walk in AGAIN, now sharply dressed, and remind her of her workload as a team manager before walking away. This makes the situation between Su Jeong and her date even more awkward, leaving her with no choice but to apologize profusely before leaving.

My Dearest Nemesis

Outside the mall, Su Jeong confronts Ju Yeon about how he handled the situation with her date. However, Ju Yeon apologizes, not for interfering, but for not remembering their kiss. When Su Jeong attempts to dismiss it as a mistake, thinking it will make things easier, Ju Yeon firmly states that he is only apologizing for not remembering the kiss, not for kissing her. He makes it clear that their kiss was not a mistake and that he didn’t do it for no reason. Su Jeong is left speechless, but Ha Jin’s timely call saves her from the situation, giving her an excuse to dash away. At the bar, Ha Jin presses Su Jeong for details about her date. She questions why Su Jeong turned him down when he met all her expectations and boldly asks if she has someone else in mind (Ju Yeon, obviously). While Ha Jin is momentarily distracted by a customer’s order, Su Jeong sits there, trying to convince herself she isn’t into Ju Yeon. In their respective homes, both Su Jeong and Ju Yeon think about each other. Su Jeong’s phone brightens with a text from Ju Yeon, sending her on a rollercoaster of emotions, from excitement to confusion. Meanwhile, Ju Yeon sits in his game room, waiting for a reply that never comes.

Ha Jin helps out at her parents’ shop, enduring her mother’s nagging about being divorced and having a temper. Ha Jin counters by telling her mother not to say such things in front of others, since there is someone who doesn’t see her as flawed (cue Shin Won’s name screaming in the background). When her mother asks if this person is a man, Ha Jin teasingly asks if she would want to date him if he were. In the office lobby, while walking in with Secretary Kwon, Ju Yeon is clearly looking for Su Jeong. When he finally spots Su Jeong, she avoids him like the plague, helping a teammate carry stuff, engaging in random conversations, and even offering her food to a coworker, all in a desperate attempt to evade him. Meanwhile, Su Jeong’s father watches the news, where Ju Yeon’s secret identity has finally been exposed to the media. At work, Su Jeong has to read through the public’s reactions for work purposes. The numerous comments labeling Ju Yeon as a privileged silver spoon hit her with a reality check. As she prepares to leave the office, she bumps into Ju Yeon again and instinctively tries to avoid him. But he follows, insisting that they need to talk. He reiterates that their kiss wasn’t a mistake and that he refuses to pretend it never happened. Su Jeong, however, cuts him off, reminding him of their work relationship, his status as the director and soon-to-be successor, and the countless barriers between them. Just as she moves to walk away, he reaches out to stop her, then hesitates and lets her go.

Meanwhile, Shin Won is drowning in the misery of Ha Jin’s rejection as he heads home from work. A friend calls him, and they make plans to grab a drink together. The friend mentions Ha Jin’s bar, but Shin Won declines, promising himself never to go there again to avoid making her uncomfortable. But, of course, the next few scenes show him visiting the bar repeatedly, only to keep his distance, like a child denied candy. Ha Jin, on the other hand, comes to terms with the saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Back at the office, Secretary Kwon delivers good news to a gloomy-looking Ju Yeon about his media exposure. But all he can say is that he needs to work harder now that he has greater responsibilities. Later that night, he sits in his gaming room, reflecting on his last conversation with Su Jeong. He even records a memo about how pretty she looked in that moment before Shin Won arrives. As Shin Won rants about not being able to move on from someone he loves, Ju Yeon finds himself deeply relating. The next day, Ju Yeon and Su Jeong cross paths in front of the elevator, and she once again avoids him. Inside, she arranges to meet someone over the phone. Ju Yeon, curious, asks if she’s meeting her blind date, but she swiftly puts him in his place.

Later, Ju Yeon conveniently shows up at the restaurant where Su Jeong is meeting someone. Bursting in, he interrupts, only to realize the man she’s meeting is his younger brother. Just then, Su Jeong’s father arrives. It turns out Su Jeong was talking to Ha Jin on the phone earlier, explaining the details of the family meeting with her brother’s girlfriend. Ju Yeon quickly makes up an excuse about a canceled meeting and shamelessly joins them. He spends the meal praising Su Jeong’s work ethic, much to her discomfort, and impressing her father. After the meal, while Ju Yeon is outside, Su Jeong’s brother warns Ju Yeon not to take his sister lightly, to which Ju Yeon assures him that he won’t. At the chairwoman’s house, she questions the house cleaner, who reveals that Ju Yeon doesn’t allow her into his study. This raises the chairwoman’s suspicion. She informs Secretary Kwon that they will inspect Ju Yeon’s house, forbidding her from informing him. On the other hand, Ju Yeon exits the restaurant to see Su Jeong waiting for him outside, and she asks him why he’s doing all that when they already have an understanding. Ju Yeon tells her he’s scared that she might like someone else and that they have an understanding does not mean his feelings are not there anymore. He receives a call from Secretary Kwon midway, and she secretly tells him about the chairwoman’s intention (I knew I could trust that secretary). Panicked, Ju Yeon remembers the painful memories of his childhood when his grandmother burned his things. Su Jeong stops him from acting rashly and urges him to stall for time.

Meanwhile, Shin Won tries to delay the chairwoman. Ha Jin also assists by blocking her path with her truck, but the chairwoman remains determined. After she leaves, Shin Won and Ha Jin meet outside and, although they both try to play cool and act nicely, it’s obvious they miss each other. At Ju Yeon’s house, he and Su Jeong scramble to hide his belongings. He receives a message that the chairwoman and secretary Kwon are around, and Ju Yeon goes to receive them. The chairwoman heads straight to the study room, asking him why he doesn’t let the cleaner clean the place. Just as she is about to discover the door to the game room, she sees a portrait of Ju Yeon and his parents, which Ju Yeon planted there to distract her and also protect Su Jeong in the game room. The chairwoman holds the portraits and thinks this is what Ju Yeon is trying to hide. She goes on a rampage, reminding him he doesn’t have a right to mourn, miss, or have a picture of his parents and whatnot. She smashes the portrait, leaves, and tells Secretary Kwon to watch him more closely. Emotionally shaken, Ju Yeon picks up the shattered portrait and opens up to Su Jeong about his parents’ death. He confesses that she is the first person to encourage him to embrace his interests. Touched, Su Jeong reassures him that she meant those words. Unexpectedly, Ju Yeon confesses his feelings, telling her he likes her.

Su Jeong goes home to meet her father, who tells her he received the stuff she sent (Ju Yeon's things), and left them in their attic. He keeps asking if she is okay, telling her of his concerns about not being reliable for her, she assures him she's fine and leaves for her room. While on the bed, all she can think about is her moments with Ju Yeon, especially when he confessed his feelings and she instantly rushes out to meet him. She doesn’t find him at home but on the street in front of the shopping mall. After a moment of intense staring, she walks up to him and asks him why he ran all the way to meet her the night he remembered their kiss, even when his secret was at stake. She also asks him if he will be okay, knowing that their relationship can get exposed anytime and can be problematic for him. He answers this by saying he will be fine as long as she’s with him and still likes him. Then she drops the bombshell. She will become his biggest secret, which means she likes him too, and then we seal that up with a kiss. But just before we get to our ending, we are taken into Su Jeong’s house attic where the package she’s keeping for Ju Yeon has Black Dragon clearly written on it, and yeah right, see you in episode 8.

My Dearest Nemesis My Dearest Nemesis

Now that our romance has bloomed, the next episode will probably not hold much water. I am predicting we get some cheeky office romance moments and efforts to keep their relationship a secret. Shin Won and Ha Jin’s will also likely get closure and the big reveal will probably come at the end of episode 8 but we can’t be sure until we see for ourselves. See you next episode!
