As an unrepentant K-drama lover, if you ask me why I am so much in love with K-dramas, one of my very first answers is the fact that I have seen and learned a lot of new things from them, and I am sure you can also say the same. I mean, there are a lot of things you randomly learn in the process of watching a K-Drama, and as a creative, this has really been loads of help for me.
Speaking of one of the new things I learned is the existence of alter egos. Although I have known about it for a while, it didn’t really sink in until I watched some K-dramas about alter egos, and I find them amazing and amusing.
So if this is your first time as well or you wanna learn more, this is your chance. Here are five K-dramas about alter egos you should watch.
Synopsis: The story is about a corrupt yet practical detective who manifests a split personality that harbors a sense of justice.
Bad and Crazy has to be that series that confused me at first. Who exactly is K and what is his business? That was the question I had in my head before finding out he was the alter ego of the main lead. Unlike some dramas on this list, the alter ego case in this series is psychological, and it is by no means intentional, and that made it interesting and lively. I mean, how can just one person be the bad person and still be the good one fighting against himself?
Synopsis: The series follows the journey of Im Sol, an ardent fan of idol Ryu Sun-jae. Sol, a once-promising film director whose dreams were shattered by an accident that left her paralyzed, finds solace in the music of Sun-Jae. However, tragedy strikes again when Sun-Jae dies by suicide, devastating Sol.
Spoiler Alert
Although Lovely Runner is a time travel K-Drama, it also employs the use of split personality. I mean, although Im Sol was going back and forth between the past and future in the series, her teenage self and adult self were still swapping, and at a point, she had no choice but to agree to the fact that she indeed has a split personality. Although the split personality is only a minor part of the series, and it is in no way physiological like Bad and Crazy, it was fun to watch, and it is recommended.
Synopsis: Military Prosecutor Doberman tells the story of Do Bae-man (Ahn Bo-Hyun), who initially became a military prosecutor for money and fame where he looks forward to his retirement day, as well as Cha Woo-in (Jo Bo-ah), who was born into a chaebol family and who subsequently became a military prosecutor for revenge and turns into a redhead at night.
The alter ego in this series is another self-inspired one by the female lead. Although she works as a cool and calm military prosecutor during the day, she turns into a redhead who secretly exerts revenge on people who have wronged her. Although she soon dropped the hidden personality after fulfilling her mission, it was fun while it lasted, and the series was worth watching altogether.
Synopsis: A wealthy businessman with a warmhearted personality who loves to help others. He is the main personality of the body. However, after realizing that he suffers from dissociative identity disorder 11 years ago, he has been desperately trying to hide this fact from his family and friends.
This has to be the most unmatched split personality, alter ego series. I said this because we saw not one or two but three but seven different personalities. Actor Ji Sung really stunned me with the perfect portrayal of seven personalities, and it was both humorous, entertaining, and educational. If you’ve not seen this series, you won’t regret seeing it.
Synopsis: Yeon Wol hides her identity and becomes an assassin to avenge her family. Her mission is to assassinate the king but fails when she falls into a trap set by an unknown person. She wakes up the next day with no memory of her past and is appointed as the crown prince's concubine.
This is a Sageuk and yes, it is interesting. The Crown Prince has an alter ego who is even named Ak Hee and it will interest you to know that this alter ego exists like a twin in the series which differs greatly from Bad and Crazy but each series with its peculiarity, right?
Should I let you in on a little secret of mine? After watching some of these dramas, I sometimes think I might have an alter ego (lol). The power of delulu? I know, right?
I'm sure I don't have to tell you how great, exciting, and time-worthy these dramas are because we trust K-dramas to deliver always. Which of these dramas will be your pick? Let's talk about it in the comments below.
